IGT - 9/17/16 - Twins at Mets

Ervin Santana versus Seth Lugo. Lost in the win yesterday was that the Mets have kinda stopped hitting. Even against a guy with a near 10 ERA. Task is tougher today with veteran Ervin Santana. Let's start hitting guys.

KJ seems to have fallen into the trap where he's been so good in the off the bench role that his manager wants to keep him there. Listening a few min behind on XM due to WPIX/FIOS nonsense as per usual on a Saturday. Bases loaded for Conforto (don't spoil it for me!) Forced to listen to the Twinks radio team as XM is barfing on the Howie/Josh call. These guys are surprisingly pleasant for a road radio team. Most other broadcast teams are insipid but these guys are giving equal talk time to both squads and not descending into who-cares-ness.

Giving FMan time to catch up .... OK now! Even more so than Jay Bruce, Conforto has been 0-2 or maybe 1-2 in seemingly every AB since about the 1st of May and the results become pretty predictable after that.

The Mets had their best chance to score in the 7th inning, as Santana suddenly couldn't locate the plate with a road map. Not surprisingly, the Mets couldn't get the hit they needed to knock him out as Conforta strikes out with the bases loaded to end the threat.

I forget the p-b-p man but Bert Blyleven is a hoot. He started a thing years ago where he 'circles' random fans with his tele-strator so, at home games, fans will bring signs to the game saying, 'Hey Bert, Circle Me!!, and once or twice per game he'll do just that.

I think that pitch DID hit Cespedes but, with a 2-1 count, it's better that the AB continues.

Mauer fouled off pitches 6 times with Dozier running. Dozier was probably as relieved as I was when Mauer finally struck out.

Familia generally gets the job done, but it often has some anxiety and drama along the way.

Guy pitched Reyes tough. Kept it far enough away from him that he couldn't keep it fair, then busted him inside. Bad luck earlier on that Plawecki smash - both that the pitcher got a piece of it and then the way it bounced. Thought that one was going to end it.

Nice inning by Edgin. That's only his 3rd complete inning he's thrown this year and the first one in a game that wasn't already a blowout when he came in. And now the heart of the order is up. If this game doesn't end now, the west coast games are going to end before this one does. Giants leading in the 8th; Dodgers over DBacks in the 9th.

I watched the bottom of the 11th. I turned off the TV after the Reyes K. I had JUST turned the TV back on when with his next swing, Granderson wins the game. Unreal.

Not done yet after a 2-out SF single. Denard Span at the plate so no HR likely. No bad outcomes here really. A StL win moves us into a tie for the #1 WC slot even as it reduces our cushion from the dreaded 3rd place finish among the three contenders.

Cards Win! NYM & SFG tied for WC StL 2.0 games behind both. Pitt actually won twice today so they leapfrog the Marlins but still 5.0 games in back of NYM/SFG and 3.0 in back of Cards Marlins 6.0 behind and drop to 2 below .500
