"This Isn't Cricket!"

From Adam Rubin:
The Mets are under consideration to play in London next season, BBC sports correspondent Richard Conway reports. London Mayor Sadiq Khan was quoted as saying: "The owner of the New York Mets was very receptive. We're in discussions with MLB and we want MLB to come to London." The game(s) reportedly would be played at Olympic Stadium next summer. Khan was at Citi Field last weekend.

Given the fact that the schedule is set, good luck figuring out how to make that work (e.g. move the series @ STL before the All-Star break to London? The Cardinals wouldn't want to lose any home games).

Re: "This Isn't Cricket!"

wouldn't they just move something to a few days before the official season like they usually do with these things?

It'd be pretty cool imo. If I wasn't going to have two kids and no money, I'd be all about making an excuse for a trip to London.

Mets vs Cubs in Tokyo like fifteen years ago, this is nothing new. I think
those games were played (and counted) before the season started.

Not hard to do. They play the Braves in the first series. Move the opener up from April 3 to April 1. Fly back on the 4th. Next home game is the 7th. Start spring training three days earlier for both teams.

The initial report said summer but your idea makes sense. Get both teams there a few days ahead of time for publicity while Granderson teaches baseball to British youth. Spring Training will already be starting early because of the WBC.

Re: "This Isn't Cricket!"

The Mets tried out Nevisian cricketeer Kieran Powell last winter, who might have been an asset in a trip to a cricket country. He not only didn't get signed by a baseball team, but he hasn't continued his cricket career either. It's like MLB was a big bluff to get his contract improved in cricket, and nobody bit.

"This isn't Cricket"

No, but the games these days are almost as long.

Whatever happened to our cricket lesson from the man down under?
