IGT 10/1/16 NYM@PHI Talk of the Town

Smartolo Colón and the strained foot represents the PLAYOFF BOUND New York Mets as they entertain Phil Klein of the Philadelphia Phillies and a host of his phellow relievers on National television. That's the treatment playoff bound teams get.

I hope that these guys remember to change before they take the field:
Rene Rivera, Brandon Nimmo, T.J. Rivera, Ty Kelly, Josh Smoker, Matt Reynolds, Robert Gsellman, Gavin Cecchini, and Seth Lugo.

Of course Nimmo is smiling. Rene Rivera is hardly a rookie--it says something about his "team spirit" (or perhaps his desire to wear a skirt).

That's about five kinds of awesome. And Gsellman doesn't get to wear a wig!

We had a team here in Grand Rapids -- the Chicks.

And, for some extra trivia, every McDonald's egg east of the Mississippi and most of the McNuggets start at a massive chicken farm halfway between GR and Lansing. Between that an Pop Tarts made here, we've got your breakfast taken care of!

The most incompetent umpire in recent history, Angel Hernandez, was at third base last night. Does that mean he'll be behind the plate tonight? No matter where he will be stationed, I'd hate to see the game turn on one of his miscalls.

Nope, the umps rotate in the other direction, so he not only won't have the plate today but shouldn't be behind the plate in this series at all.
It's the first thing I thought of when I saw him at 3rd last night.

A straight-in slide and d'Arnaud is very safe there.

Surprised we didn't go to a lefty to face Howard.

I know it's only the sixth, but that strategy has more or less worked for the team for 10 years. And it's not like they don't have a full pen available.

The Mets should slow the pace of this game down and get as much info as they can on the Cardinals game. It could affect who to bring in to pitch the late innings.

If they're casting an eye Loo-ward right now, they'll notice that, while the Cards are down 3 in the bottom of the 6th, they've got Birds at 2nd and 3rd with one out.

Standing between them and Making This A Ballgame? Agent Bastardo.

They'll never slow it down enough because Bastardo is in the game for Pitt and nothing moves slower than him.

At the moment he's trying to bail the Pirates out of a 2nd & 3rd/no outs (not his doing).
He got a K for out #1 but now a walk/WP has allowed the first StL run and it's 1st & 3rd w/one out.
Pitching change now for Pirates.

Got home from the game a little while ago! Boy, was that fun! That was the most important game I've attended in person since the game that was spoiled by Mike Scioscia in 1988.

It was definitely a Mets crowd, although it wasn't very crowded at all. When Howard hit that homer it revealed that there were in fact a number of Phillies fans in attendance, but most of the noise favored the visiting team.

We were behind home plate, dead center, but about four rows away from the top of the stadium. (I wanted tickets under an overhang in case there was rain.) As the game was about to begin, during the national anthem and the pitcher warmups, I had a surge of nervous adrenaline. The homer by Loney was fantastic, but strangely there was no giant apple rising out of a hat in the outfield. When Cabrera drove in that big insurance run (which prevented Howard from leading off the ninth as the tying run) I turned to my son and told him that had he been born this year, his name would be "Asdrubal."

In the bottom of the ninth I was pacing back and forth in the empty row behind us. And with the final out: goosebumps! I had so many goosebumps my clothes didn't fit! I've never been so happy to live within an hour from the Phillies ballpark!

Have a gander at his late August. Normally for a bouncing baby playoff team, it would be much higher. But on 2016 here, it was set much lower. Uh-huh, just like on you.
