I think it's still pretty clear he's done a very good job of rebuilding that team. I have a tough time seeing getting the team to the World Series for the first time in 70 years as a failure.

Obviously yes. Just sort of alluding to those who thought it was merely a matter of how the Cubs march to the title would go this season, not if. Hell, some seemed to assume that this year was to be the first in a string of championships for the North-siders - which still may happen but let's see it happen once first before we starting counting how many.

With the baseball post season being such a crapshoot, the Cubs would be incredibly lucky just to return to the World Series,no matter how good this team continues to be.

I'd like to strike that & reverse it. With the team of talented youngsters they have they'd have to be unlucky not to get back there over the next bunch of years. I say they are in it again inside of 5 years.

I think its too early to write off the Cubs, and Trump, too, for that matter. It's a tough road for the Cubs, but I can't dismiss that rotation and those bats. That said, my buddy who lives in Chicago has been saying all year that the Cubs are due for one last heartbreaking collapse before winning it -- in 2017.

my buddy who lives in Chicago who's actually an Ohio native who roots for the Reds, pulls for the White Sox and is rooting for the Indians and lived in Cleveland for a couple years while researching a book about minor league baseball but not a fan of the Cubs has been saying all year that the Cubs are due for one last heartbreaking collapse before winning it again after 109 years. Ok, got it!
