Good god can we just end cancer? Or end the world as an alternative? How many angels like
Jessica Whelan or my neighbor Aidan or my sister or our other loved ones do we have to endure?

Take us allalready

Lost my wife and two close friends to it. Cancer is evil. Prayers and love to all.

Re: Had it

A schoolboy baseball teammate of mine died today. Brain cancer. What I remember most, besides his sweet, loopy, Olerudian lefthanded swing, was the intensity with which he has his head in the game and rode all of us slackers. Whenever somebody struck out, the whole team would go, "ohhhh ..." while Scott was the only one noticing the ball skipped by the catcher and he'd be up against the backstop yelling "RUN!" at the batter who was walking slowly back to the bench with his stupid head down. I resolved never to let him catch me doing that.

He became a cop. Fell down on the job one day for no reason and the next thing he knew his whole left side was paralyzed. A standup guy (no pun intended). Just remembering now he occasionally drove me to practice in his old USPS Jeep, and he had replaced the gearshift knob handle with a baseball.

I just wish we'd had a bit more time with my mom between diagnosis and the candle-snuffing. Three months was too damn little.

Re: Had it

Ashie I was especially thinking of you when I started this. And I know that there are several of us who have had to bear the pain of this disease in our families, so I mean it for all of us, friends.

When I posted this I had just run across a picture of a little girl named Jessica Whelan. Four years old and dying. It was a picture of her wracked in pain and it shot right to my heart and I cried like I haven't cried since I lost my dad.

In the picture she looks just like my granddaughter when she cries.

For the record, right now my sister is doing well, for a person who has had brain cancer for 2 1/2 years :D Gets a little confused at times, but still with us and sweet as hell. Well, sweet as heaven lol.

Sorry if I evoked any pain and bad memories here but this little girl just reached into my heart and pulled it out.

Love you all

Congrats on your sister. I know what she is going through and I am praying for her. We were told at the outset "We can only be hopeful, it will largely depend on you." Ashie1 was a warrior and your sister is also. Everyone who has gone through this, regardless of outcome embodies the true meaning of "brave,"
