The fact that he grew up just like us, loving the Mets & going to games, endears him to me. The fact that he's also a fantastic play by play guy put's him over the top. We have always been fortunate when it comes to broadcasters, but never as fortunate as when Gary was given the lead spot in the booth. For him to surpass the feelings I had for Bob Murphy is quite an accomplishment, because I thought the world of Murph. I would say "good luck" but I don't think he needs it. He's the best. I would have thought that he'd need a few more miles on him before being considered - and I suspect that he'll be passed over this time for one of his older cohorts (Harrelson, Keiper, etc.) and that the mere consideration will be honor enough for now. But, even if he's not the honoree now, this serves as a great omen that future induction is coming his way.

I was listening to WFAN when the announcement was made. Ed Coleman was the host. He said Bill King was very good, respected and deserved the honor.
