Assuming that Cespedes returns, is trading one of these players the best move. And, if so, which player? Obviously a lot depends on who we would be getting back.

Bruce. He probably has more trade value, and hasn't fit in as well as Curtis has. Trading Conforto now would be selling low.

Id consider moving any of them for the right return.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

Yeah. If the return is the same, and the gun is firmly to my temple, then Bruce Magoose in a heartbeat. But obviously, inquiries are not going to be all equal.

I think I would consider Granderson if the returns were equal due to age. I think Bruce would will hit better in 2017.

But Granderson can play CF. So I don't know.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

I am assuming Bruce goes if Cespedes is retained. I suppose the best play for the Mets is secretly agree with Cespy, then take advantage of the losers. Not a big stretch to suggest Bruce would be about the next best OF available.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

I hear the Reds have a pretty good second base prospect. Little guy, but he's hit at every level and has surprising power. We are going to have a hole if Walker leaves. Maybe they can swing a trade there.

Long shot though. Not sure any club would want to give up a hitterish 2B prospect for a one-dimensional outfielder.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

Awright, here's the deal. You get Dilson Hererra, I get whoever the Mets get for trading Bruce next month, and we'll see whether we'll trade those guys for one another.

Not right now. I'd want to see what happens with Walker and Cespedes.

Then test the market and see what's available.

My post was more tongue-in-cheek. I'd trade him right now for the catching version of Dilson Herrera. Plus we should get our pitcher back too.

I really can't give any thought to anything until these two play out.

Is that "No!" put forward with a knowledge of what Toronto is offering?

Maybe he misread it and thinks that Upton would be coming from Toronto?

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

The Jay-to-the-Jays rumors continue to spread, but all stories still appear to be originating from the same original source, which makes it look like talks are picking up steam, but that's deceptive.

Anyway, as for who the Mets would get in return, the only thing I've seen is speculation from one reporter, Joe Giglio of NJ.com, who says,

Joe Giglio wrote:
As for what the Mets could ask for back? With Bartolo Colon out the door, would a Francisco Liriano ($13.6M in 2017, free agent after season) one-for-one swap work to help the Mets add a veteran presence to the rotation?

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

I want no part of Bruce starting for the Mets because he's not good so he's the obvious choice.

But I'd probably look to sell high on Granderson even though I really like him. Cespedes, Lagares, and some other guy you sign for RF with Conforto trying to earn a spot and a lefty CF type to backup so we don't have Cespedes playing there. (sign Cespedes obviously)

Bruce and Conforto haven't hit enough to be starters out of the gate, so only trading Curtis if we're filling the outfield with others.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

Jay Bruce is a tough sell no? On the one hand, he hit 33 HR's this past year and had an OPS of .815. So despite what he did with the Mets, you're kind of selling high.

So we thought were were seeing a slumping Jay Bruce, and that over time he couldn't be that bad. But in 2014, his performance for the year was actually worse than he put up during his time in NY. .654 OPS, .217 BA. And this is while playing in Cincy.

Very flawed and inconsistent player. I don't know what you do with him.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

I can totally see Bruce as a Blue Jay. Not sure what they'd offer but the last time we dealt with them we ended up with Syndergaard.

Maybe they'll send us Stroman so we can continue assembling the ALL-LONG ISLAND STARTING ROTATION.

first of all, trading Granderson wouldn't be "selling high". Trading him last off-season would've been selling high. While Grandy certainly salvaged this past year with his HR outbreak late in the season, he did end up below most of his career averages. And he's 35. Trading him instead of Bruce would also leave CF to a platoon of Lagares & Conforto (or Nimmo), unless we were getting a CFer back.

With hist strong finish, Bruce has pretty much the same value he had when he acquired him. And at $13m, he's not greatly overpaid. So if we gave up one of our system's top 10 prospects for him, i think we might get something similar now. And it wouldn't have to be a CFer; it could be a catcher.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

Thing is, we were kinda DUMB to give up a top-10 guy for him.

So, all we need is someone dumb. With top-10 guys.

Re: Who would you trade (if any)?

I am really curious to see this guy's trade value. The guy with the .815 OPS and 33 HR's has a lot of value.

The guy who has a .654 OPS in a hitter's park, and struggles to keep his average in the low 200's won't bring back dick.
