Fritz Polka

I'm doing research for a Todd Zeile biography and happened to notice that despite being the 55th player taken in the '86 June draft there were 7 catchers selected ahead of him.

I don;t know if I ever heard this name before, but one of those catchers selected ahead of Zeile was Fritz Polka of Minnesota State U.

Fritz Polka!!

Didn't have much of a career but for a guy with such a great name I've never heard of him till just now.

Re: Fritz Polka

Catching in the system as the same time as Todd Hundley (still the team's best-ever home grown receiver) and Dave Lidell, owner of the greatest batting line in team history.

Re: Fritz Polka

If your name is going to be Fritz Polka you damn well better be from somewhere in the upper midwest.

Re: Fritz Polka

I see his birth name is Frederic.

So much better to be Fritz Polka instead of Fred Polka or Eric Polka!

You win.

I remember the name, but not much else.

Re: Fritz Polka

My Mets minor league cards kick was short lived but I think I have the
1987 Columbia Mets team set. I'll have to dig around and look later.

(not sure I remember the name, I mean if you heard that name you'd
probably remember it right?)
