Tradition

Mets are renewing their agreement to continue getting in embarrassing, alcohol related scrapes in Port St. Lucie for another 25 years. Part of the deal is $55 million in renovations to Tradition Field which, again, they would do well to rename "Gary Carter Field."

Re: Tradition

I'm sure that the Wilpons have made out well financially with Port St. Lucie but this means more years of playing the same teams over and over. The Braves might move closer to PSL but that will still mean numerous games against the Braves, Astros, Cardinals, Marlins and Nationals.

I have a plan for that.

Re: Tradition

$55 mil clams seems to me like a hefty sum to throw into a minor league park.
At least the county and state are throwing a bunch of the clams. Bully for some
of the blue collar workers of the PSL area I guess.

Yeah, I imagine some of that munny is going into the broader complex and perhaps the access roads and flood control and stuff.

Re: Tradition

Never been there, on my bb-bucket list. Would be cool to go for a few days this
spring and then again in a couple of years to see the before and after.

I attended a game there in 2008. Nice place, I guess, but I'm not much of a spring training fan. We went because we were in the area anyway.

Looks like a lot of it is just updating fields and clubhouses and stuff. Not like they're building a retractable roof.

they did recently build up the berm since the last time I was there. I'd like to get back to see that, presumably when the kids are bigger. fun times.

Re: Tradition

It's OK. It has concourses like Shea, rather than open-interior space like modern ballparks, so if you go for food you miss the game. It could use more food options and another merchandise store (last March, post-World Series, there was a line to get in the store). The complex is nice but you don't see that when you're at a game.
