The policy, obtained by The Associated Press, prohibits “requiring, coercing or encouraging” players from “dressing up as women or wearing costumes that may be offensive to individuals based on their race, sex, nationality, age, sexual orientation, gender identify or other characteristic.” What if the player is offended by being forced to wear a hat or jersey with a racially insensitive image? oh, nevermind...

I don't think the Braves guy is a particularly objected to, but there's certainly been pushback. But he's mostly been phased out, no?

"It's a tradition" is never a good argument. Slavery was a tradition. So was foot-binding in China. Bad traditions should end. Cross-dressing can be fun and lighthearted, but it stresses gender roles and reinforces negative stereotypes. Our transgender community probably doesn't find this tradition to be very funny.

Dressing rookies up in Underoos, or compelling rookies to wear terrible facial hair: good fun for everyone. And sexually assaulting our minor leaguers falls on which side of that line? It's just that there are so many rules now and it's hard to keep track of up from down.

It's kind of a stupid thing and they can still do it in a number of ways, like Superhero Underoos, etc., without being drag queens. But those Rockford Peaches dresses must have cost a fortune.
