Verrett traded for cash, clearing space on 40... for what???

Probably a free-agent relief pitcher.

Kinda surprising seeing as how we lost Colon. You'd think a guy like Verrett might be insurance in case we don't add anyone. Maybe they feel we have enough in Lugo/Gsellman.

For Cespedes. I believe they were already at the 40-man limit, no? http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams ... ster.shtml

I'm hoping this means they are optimistic about the health of Harvey, Matz, Wheeler, et al.

I think it means that Verrett has been eclipsed by Gsellman and Lugo.

Gotta pay for that Cespedes contract somehow, I guess.

Odd move, but counting on Logan Verrett isn't a championship-level move for us, honestly. Had good flashes, but dude was 3-8, 5.20 last year. Best wishes in your new adventure, Logan.

4-5 decent-to-good starts over two years, a bunch more not-so-decent ones, and a whole lotta hard-hit balls.

I don't think it means anything more than the fact that somebody off the 40-man had to go and it would be tough to find someone with a less defined role heading into 2017. Would have been nice if he could have been flipped for an actual warm body but there was a time crunch on this one so it probably came down to either greenbacks or a flat out release.
