Today I finished planting my daffodils, brought in my house plants, set up a little heated cat house for the stray that hangs out in our yard, locked the pool gates and put away the pool stuff, and pretty much got everything ready for winter, under sunny skies and balmy weather.

Edgy MD Nov 20 2016 04:04 AM Re: Winter 2016 |
I enclosed the bird feeder in a 10x10 corral of chicken wire, hopefully creating a safe space for them to snack protected from the nu neighbor's cat. We woke up to carnage two days ago, and Ms. Edgy wanted me hammering a pen together before the ground froze.

Freaking out over the weather forecast, then I realized it was still on Syracuse after looking at Fman's weather the other day

That's funny. It's not even really freak out worthy for what we'd normally be in for this time of year.

Rockin' Doc Nov 25 2016 03:00 AM Re: Winter 2016 |
I hate winter. The older I get, the more I dislike it. I dream of retiring to a Caribbean Island in a few years.

There is about 3 inches of snow on the ground and its still snowing.

Frayed Knot Dec 09 2016 12:34 AM Re: Winter 2016 |
Winter used to have occasional 'cold spells'. We still have them, only now it's called a 'polar vortex'.

It's a rare occasion that I feel chilly, but I am freezing today.
|
Frayed Knot Dec 15 2016 03:30 AM Re: Winter 2016 |
So yeah, the weather may suck and is likely to get worse for the next two months, but we've hit the spot where sunset times have turned around and are starting to get later.

0 here with wind.

Fman99 Dec 15 2016 12:45 PM Re: Winter 2016 |
Yeah we're forecast for 3-6" today and squalls and sub zero temps. I may do my evening run indoors tonight on my gym track, not because the cold bothers me terribly, but more because I worry about cars slipping around on the roads in proximity to me.

MFS62 Dec 17 2016 05:27 PM Re: Winter 2016 |
Already about 5 or 6 inches of snow on the ground and its just starting to change to sleet. The town plow has only come through once or twice, the last time a few hours ago.

Wednesday during that cold snap I bought a pair of heavy black sweat pants. Today when it's back to normal, I put them in the washer and thought "when in the world am I ever going to wear these?"

Ashie62 Dec 20 2016 04:18 AM Re: Winter 2016 |
I had to leave for a Dr. at 7am. -9 with wind chill. I wore a tee-shirt, sweat shirt, Maine Warden's jacket. a ski cap, the coats hood, gloves and sweats and such and I still arrived a popsicle. Yeesh.

Frayed Knot Feb 01 2017 04:11 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
I have a cousin in northern Virginia who went out and bought a really big snow plow right after that area got hit by three separate blizzards in about a six-week time-frame, aka: 'Snowmageddon' in I think it was Dec-Feb 2009-10.

I'd say we got about 6 inches of snow last night. I haven't gone out to shovel yet so I can't be sure. Snow day from school so I'm home!
|
d'Kong76 Feb 09 2017 03:50 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
We're supposed to get almost a foot but I dunno, it seems to be
|
cooby Feb 09 2017 03:57 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
Yes, we got more than was predicted but it was a fast and furious storm. All while we (kinda) slept. I always have trouble sleeping on those nights.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Feb 09 2017 04:16 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
Still snowing/blowing by us in the Bronx. Enough that we haven't gone outside yet to shovel/play.

Chad Ochoseis Feb 09 2017 04:58 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |

Really, huh? I drove from NJ to Cleveland yesterday. I passed through central PA at around 6:30 and there was absolutely nothing. Some flurries in far western PA at around 10. Slightly overcast and chilly here. Some remnants of a storm that hit last week when I was out of town, but that's it. You want to escape the snow, come to Cleveland.

Ashie62 Feb 09 2017 05:25 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
It is done. One foot.

Fman99 Feb 12 2017 02:16 AM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
Compared to what's going on downstate, we've had a fairly tame winter. A few inches here and there, but the kids have not missed a day of school due to weather since December. Today was a balmy 36, we didn't even zip up our coats.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Feb 12 2017 07:53 AM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
Best of both worlds: the 45-50 degree "heat" Saturday afternoon wasn't enough to make it feel comfortable, but was enough to ruin the Central Park Winter Fest, with slushy sledding and melting ice sculptures.

MFS62 Feb 12 2017 04:40 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
So, I ordered roses and chocolate to be delivered to MMYF on Monday, the day before Valentine's Day, so it wouldn't be expected.

Rockin' Doc Feb 13 2017 12:09 AM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
After church this afternoon, I put on shorts and an old t-shirt, I raked up the last of the leaves and put pre-emergence weed treatment out on the yard.
|
cooby Feb 17 2017 02:01 AM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
If it's 50 degrees tomorrow, I'll eat my hat. All week long, we've had snow squalls (formerly known as lake effect). I guess the lake didn't freeze this year.
|
Ceetar Feb 17 2017 01:52 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
I'd like one more solid snowfall. It'd be nice for like a Friday or Saturday so I would have the time to take Ceetarette the First sledding somewhere.

|
themetfairy Mar 11 2017 07:34 PM Re: Winter 2016/2017 |
It depends on the storm's formation and track. New York's CBS2 television said that we could get anywhere between 2.5" and 20" Monday into Tuesday.
