Spira Mirablis: Fantastic Tales from the Marvelous Spiral by Ralph Sevush

Election hangover? Good news! Spira Mirablis: Fantastic Tales from the Marvelous Spiral is now available for pre-sale as a Kindle e-Book!

CLICK HERE TO ORDER: [url]https://www.amazon.com/Spira-Mirablis-Fantastic-Marvelous-Spiral-ebook/dp/B01M3YSQ0C/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1478812892&sr=1-1

Spira Mirablis is a lauded collection of eight thematically linked fantasy, horror, and science fiction short stories and novelettes written by Ralph Sevush and illustrated by Susan Kaufman. As Publishers Weekly described them, “the stories are experiments of mashing genre with myth,” using a variety of styles, lengths and genres to re-invent and reconsider a wide range of ancient myths and legends. Violent, funny, poignant and romantic, in varying proportions, these tales are also about the act of telling the story, and the storyteller, too, for it’s both in the giving and receiving of the tale that we discover who and what we truly are.

The Spira Mirablis trade paperback from taQ’Lut Press will be available beginning December 1. [url]http://www.taqlutpress.com/

Reviews:

“This remarkable collection highlights a voice that will remind you why you fell in love with science fiction in the first place. From the gritty characters to the landscapes they inhabit, Ralph Sevush is a true “world builder,” calling on well-known tropes and upending them with his own clever imagination. One of my favorite pieces of genre fiction I’ve read this year… truly marvelous!” -- Qui Nguyen, Playwright (Vietgone, She Fights Monsters) and Artistic Director of the off-Broadway theater company, Vampire Cowboys

“9/10 rating… That’s some good stuff right there…not a bad story in the bunch [and some of them] still resonate. Recommended.”
--SF Reader.Com

“These astonishing stories are as funny, lyrical and literary as they are original, big-hearted and human. It’s as if some mad scientist has taken parts of Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, Mickey Spillane, Ursula Le Guin and Edgar Allan Poe, and sewn them all together to create something magnificent and wholly original." -- David Lindsay-Abaire, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, librettist, lyricist and screenwriter (Rabbit Hole, Shrek the Musical)

“Masterfully careening from fantasy to horror to science fiction, this memorable collection boasts sly references from Gilgamesh to Superman, but like all great storytellers, his literary prowess is always in service to his ultimate quest: to illuminate the human heart." -- Doug Wright, Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, librettist and screenwriter (I Am My Own Wife, Grey Gardens)

“Ralph Sevush's terrifically entertaining tales live somewhere between the classic pulp fiction of SF's Golden Age and the 21st-century cutting edge of Gaiman and Gibson... smart, startling and memorable.” -- David Auburn, Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter (Proof, The Columnist)

Re: BUY MY BOOK

eBook = 3.99
paperback = 7.99

some douche nozzle is selling a copy for $41; it's probably one of the review copies the publisher sent out. The paperback hasn't been put on sale to the public and this dick is selling review copies. I sent him an email to find out where he got his copy, but of course he didn't respond. Nor did Amazon, which seems to have no problem with this.

Re: BUY MY BOOK

Wow. Where do I start?

First of all, let me say that my favorite form of literature is definitely the short story. However, I have never been a fan of the supernatural (except ghost stories), so when Vic described his book I wasn’t sure I’d like it but gave it a shot.

This is one of the best collections of short stories by one author that I have ever read. And I’m not just saying that to be nice. I’ve read tons of them.

This starts right off with a tale of a couple of guys that can’t escape their life. There are samurai warriors… Native American magic…other ancient lore…a couple of robots in love…a masterpiece of a western tale…a sweet story of a baby found by a passing farmwife… and saving the best for last, the tale of a very special tome that reminded me a lot of MR James (do you read MR James, Vic? Similar to Lovecraft; in fact I think they were friends)

Just enough of the supernatural to give the stories the extra intrigue, but my gosh, it was hardly needed. What a writer!

He’s right, buy his book.
