I'd be more excited if under press releases it said that Cablevision and them
signed the papers all ready - the frigin' deal's been ALMOST done for week.

Hubba hubba, Julie in da house!

Huh. Kind of a rambly, bloggish website, but I sort of like that.

On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the swoosh in their logo. Of course, I don't really care so long as I can see my Mets games on their station. And they've got a pretty sweet crew set up for that . . .

Cool looking studio, fans can go and heckle from the street.

I understand on my cable system Brooklyn-TWC, it will air on channel 26 (FSNY is getting kicked up the dial), with the HD feed on channel 741. At least they got a 41 in there.

FWIW, my Cablevision is running an announcement (since last night I think) that they are dropping one channel at the end of March (the FitTV network) which certainly gets you thinking that they're doing it in order to clear space for a new channel to be added.

Probably a home shopping network for golf art afficianados.

Hmm. Interesting in that on my Cablevision FitTV is Channel 73. Channels 70, 71, and 72 are YES, MSG, and FSN respectively. That seems like the right spot for SNY.

My Cablevision FitTV is ch 64 while 73 is some Spanish language station -- but they can always just swap things around cuz they do like keeping those like channels together.

I'm just pissed that I won't be able to watch the hot chicks on their exercise balls anymore.

The map on their website shows that I'm in the coverage area.
And it showed my cable company (Charter Communications) as one of their carriers.
So I called them.
The customer service person I spoke with said they have no idea if they are going to carry the station.

WTF?

New Major League
team hits town

City's best sports staff coming to TV

A news Major League league sports team is coming to New York.
The Daily News, the city's No. 1 tabloid newspaper, and SportsNet New York, the new television home of the Mets and the Jets, yesterday announced the launch of "Daily News Live", a groundbreaking program bringing the city's sports issues to life.

The hour-long, weekday show will launch a week from tomorrow from a new street-level studio in Manhattan's Rockefeller Center.

"Daily News Live" will showcase writers from the Daily News' award-winning sports staff in a fast-paced, round-table discussion. The launch of "Daily News Live" takes the newspaper's sports coverage, widely acknowledged as among the best in America, into a new dimension.

Announcing the agreement, Jon Litner, president of SportsNet New York, said, "We are excited to partner with the Daily News and to provide sports fans with a lively, debate-driven show viewers can count on five nights a week.

"We will feature the top journalists and media personalities, who will discuss the sports issues of the day."

Daily News Editor-in-Chief Martin Dunn said: "'Daily News Live' will enhance our tradition of great sports coverage by some of the country's best sports writers, columnists and editors."

The show will become one of SportsNet New York's signature shows as the channel launches on March 16.

The program will debut at 5 p.m.

SportsNet New York is the new television home of the New York Mets and New York Jets.

It will feature up to 125 regular season Mets games and is the official year-round television home of the New York Jets, providing viewers the most exclusive coverage and access to the Jets organization and its players.

Channel 26 on my TV (formerly FSNY) is now showing a blank screen with a note saying SNY will appear here on March 16. So is channel 741, the HD channel.

I checked with Charter Communications yesterday. They said they are in "negotiation" with SNY at the current time.
Sounds to me like I'll be paying extra to see the Mets this year.

I doubt you'll be paying a direct fee for them adding the channel (assuming your supplier ever gets around to adding it of course). During the YES/Cablevision spat it pretty much got established that the provider didn't have the right to force a channel onto a pay tier.
Of course you will eventually see something the next time the rates are adjusted as sports channels are generally more expensive than most others so the price of the whole package gets bumped up (in effect, the non-sports fan cable subscriber winds up funding the sports jones for the rest of us).

In other words; even though you won't see a specific increase tied to the new channel itself, I am boldly predicting that your rates will rise in the future.

Anyone know if they are in with DirectTv on the MLB package or will us out-of-staters get left out in the cold too? It was bad enough that every game on channel 11 wasn't on the MLB package the past two years.

DirecTV is "still in negotiations" over carrying the new channel by itself ... but I'm assuming that being part of the MLB package thing is almost automatic for a cable station isn't it?

And even if DirecTV doesn't carry the new station, you'd still get your share of Mets telecasts from the opposing team's broadcasts. That may not be quite what you want, but it's not the worst thing that can happen.

I plan to get Extra Innings from Comcast, so I may be faced with the same situation.

From Phil Mushnick's NYPost column:

SNY remains very close to a finished deal with Cablevision and several smaller systems. SNY claims it fully expects to be cleared on all of them, at the latest by Opening Day. As for satellite, DirecTV is a lot closer to a done deal than Dish.

FWIW; a caller to WFAN yesterday claimed that Cablevision told her that they would definitely be carrying it "by the end of this month". And, as mentioned above, they've already announced that they're eliminating one channel although there's no word on what will fill the empty slot.

SNY should be on Cablevision 3/16, anything else is bullturd.

Looks like we've got on the local Time Warner. No programming on it yet, tho.
