Where the hell is "Sign O' The Times?" Turn To Stone vs. Darling Nikki Prince I was a fan of The Move, Jeff Lynne's band before ELO (with whom he originally recorded "Do Ya"). I got the first album eagerly ("Mr. Radio" was a good song but the album had no hits and they kept consciously trying to get a sound like Strawberry Fields Forever). I bought the next two albums also, including their breakthrough "El Dorado." After that, they just bugged me. I've softened on them over the years but their poppy stuff leaves me pretty cold. O(+> Do Ya vs. Raspberry Beret -- Too bad it's being turned into an annoying commercial but ya do gotta love do ya. ELO Evil Woman vs.Little Red Corvette --O(+>. Great, great song. Livin' Thing vs.Kiss -- Great production from ELO, cool song from O(+>. Tie. Mr. Blue Sky vs. U Got the Look -- Queen was doing this 'Blue Sky' kind of elaborate piece better than ELO. U Got My Vote, O(+> Strange Magic vs. When Doves Cry --I like both of these. WDC has a great chorus, edge to O(+> Sweet Talkin' Woman vs.Purple Rain --Best ELO song. A winner! Telephone Line vs. The Beautiful Ones --Hello. How are you? Have you been alright? Through all those lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights? Takes balls to shove 4 "lonelys" into a single line. ELO. Can't Get It Out of My Head vs. Let's Go Crazy - PRINCE Don't Bring Me Down vs. 1999 - ELO My favorite ELO song. Yes, Lenny Kravitz I knew who you were stealing from. Do Ya vs. Raspberry Beret -ELO Evil Woman vs.Little Red Corvette - TIE Livin' Thing vs.Kiss - TIE Great memories from both these songs. In 8th grade Lori Reich told me that 'Livin' Thing was a song 'about a dick'. "Ya know, its a 'givin' thing. It gives sperm to the pussy (her words folks, verbatim), it's a livin' thing. It's a terrible thing to lose..." Lori was very funny. I've been wondering what that song was from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind . I would have never guessed it was ELO. Thanks Cooby! Mr Blue Sky does have a Penny Lane feel to it. When I was looking at ELO songs over the weekend, I realized that every one of them reminded me of some boy I used to like. A song like When Doves Cry may be better than Strange Magic on an individual basic, but Strange Magic had more of an impact on my personal life and brings back more memorys. I actually wanted to go 10-0 for ELO but had to give Prince the nod on ELO songs that I was not impressed with in the 1st place. I have followed ELO since 10538 Overture(No Answer LP). The '74 album ELDORADO was a turning point in musical tastes, for me. Im not knockin Prince, cuz he has delivered some ass kickin rockNroll ( and I do like and have copies of every song on that list) but compared to ELO, Prince was just some clown on MTV. lol ;)
