Thanks for the party in my honor.

A grevious week in Boston was undone by not one, but two fine evenings with Willets Point --- the second one with his delightful bride, strategically keeping the topic off of the Mets (mostly).

But that's not where it ended, as I woke up yesterday morning with the dreaded flu-like symptoms. Dizzy and disoriented, it took me two hours to pack and check out. My flight wasn't until 4:00, and I was too weak (and freaking cold) to do any of the light last-minute sightseeing I had planned, and I didn't have my brain working enough to try and get a standby seat on an earlier flight. I chilled (literally) for an hour in the hotel lobby with a book (Colin Bateman's Empire State) and then hopped on the airport shuttle and filled a few more hours at the terminal with another book (Jonathan Lethem's Men and Cartoons: Stories --- so far, I would sooner recommend the Bateman book).

By the time the plane took off, I was delerious, and I fear I made half the cabin sick. My dear one met me on the other end at the BWI terminal, laden with gifts to shower me with. I explained my condition to her, but I was feeling a little better, and sure, I'd love a special birthday dinner at the restaurant she had selected.

Bad idea. Terrible idea. Very low, my friends, on the list of all-time ideas. The place was lovely. But the meal lasted just 30 minutes --- ten minutes, in fact, longer than the parking-lot pukefest that followed. It was a fine and respectable establishment, and I tried to get a discreet distance from their door before rejecting their food. They didn't deserve that.

But, as often happens, recovery began shortly after that first dramatic puke --- indeed, after the first hurl. I took a rare day off today, slept in, stayed off the Pool, and will be ready to go nine by Wednesday. Just keep the cake away, OK.

Thanks for the company, Willets and TigerLady. Glad this didn't hit me earlier.

Ugh - not much of a birthday celebration.

I hope you continue to mend quickly!

Edgy, I'm glad you're feeling better! I guess we'll know what happened if Willets disappears for a couple of days :(

Yikes! Sorry we turned your stomach.

Sounds like you had yourself a Crappy Birthday. Most stories involving birthdays and vomiting the protagonist is 21 and combined beer with oddly colored alchoholic drinks. I hope you're feeling better.

Wow. Rough birthday. Sorry, man.

I missed this thread on your actual birthday, so I'll get a leg up on next year.

Happy Birthday.

Me, too. Hope you had a great time and hope the same for 2007.

Nevermind what I've been busy doing. It wasn't fun and it didn't involve baseball.
