iTunes Spinoff: Circuit City at at Atlantic Center

Yesterday I exchanged the EX-71's for the EX-81's and am quite satisfied.

On a related note, the Circuit City at Atlantic Center in Brooklyn is the crowdedest, loudest store I've ever been in.

I was there at Christmas-time.

"Cha, you're pulling off."

"I'm sick of the music we have. I want to buy a new CD."

"OK."

"What's the name of the new U2 album?"

"How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb."

"OK, I'm just going to run in and out..."

[Forty-one minutes later.]

"OK, let's never do that again."

The Circuit City at Atlantic Center is not only the loudest store but is also one of those stores that treats you like a damn criminal. Me, walking out with some cheapass wires, getting manhandled by security since I didn't know to flash my receipt on the way out.

I hat all stores at Altantic Center but especially that one.

That store could warrant its own thread. I used to live right near it. I forget what I was buying, but it was one of those things they need to get out of the back. I waited 45 minutes for someone to appear, only to tell me it was out of stock. Talk about frustrating.

The fact that I never have to go back to that Circuit City (and that whole "mall" in general) is high on the list of reasons I'm glad I moved to the burbs.

The place is 31,000+ square feet of techno entertainment retail. Here's an early negative opinion of the mall, if not of the store itself.

The mall was originally designed in such a way that they wanted to negate people hanging out -- the opposite of what most malls wish for -- since they were afraid of too many poor people causing trouble in their stupid mall. At one time there was a Sports Authority that closed leaving one whole side of the mall empty until the DMV took pity on the mall and took that space. The mall has now doubled in size with Target anchoring another horrorshow building that also includes a Chuck E. Cheese's (where there's already been at least one stabbing).

I used to live in Fort Greene and the Pathmark was my local store. It's not so terrible but one of the best side-effects of moving about 5 miles away is that I have no real reason to ever go there -- and I hardly ever do.

I suspect the big freaky mouse.

For all the complaints those retailers must be doing fabulous business. The lines at Target registers are absolute insanity: I'm sure they opened thinking they could apply their suburban labor/scheduling strategy but they're failing at it big time even as they take in piles of cash.

Bonus spinoff topic: I rode the G train there but thanks to being immersed in a Soduku puzzle, I missed not one but two subway stops, and wound up walking 12 or 15 blocks just to get there.

I picked up a book of soduku puzzles a few weeks ago when my plane was delayed (at the airport, in the runway and finally in the air) and barely noticed as I did these things. Anyone else all gay about these things?

I don't know where in Brooklyn but my grandmother once took my sister and I to a Chuck E. Cheese's in a mall. I was 11, my sister 14, far too old for Chuck E. Cheese. Of course my grandmother called it Chuck And Cheese. This is exhibit #1718 of how generally clueless my grandmother was when dealing with us.

The cruel irony for me is, the Circuit City I go to now is a lot more sane. However, the parking lot surrounding it is OUT OF CONTROL. I can't remember seeing a more horribly congested and terribly designed parking lot in my life.

The Circuit City near me isn't bad. It's a little off the beaten path, and D-Dad has made some major purchases there.

First of all, Best Buy kicks Circuit City's ass every day of the week.

Second, I dig the Sudoku. I found some Sudoku freeware for my Palm Pilot, and it's a nice, quiet way to sit in the back of a training session and pretend to take notes.

Not surprising. Everytime I've been in a Chuck E. Cheese, I've stabbed someone. The place just does that to you.

Me. I am totally gay for sudoku.

The one in Norwalk next to the Sports Authority? They need a freakin' stoplight in that parking lot.

No, the one in Trumbull, but the Norwalk one is crazy too.

Thanks to my impulsive purchase of a big screen TV on or about Valentine's Day 2003, I am now banned from coming within 500 feet of any Circuit City.

I get credit for a topic I didn't start ... complete with a bonus preposition.
