Yes, assholes-disgusting-stupid-delusional-revolting... and very upsetting to me. It's county land that our dead end street abuts. It's part of Blue Mountain Reservation and also the woods con- nect to another park in town so there's ~1,700 acres of woods and park right at the end of the street. It's my get away zone with the dog and finding it all painted up with Nigga and Lion King lyrics (wtf) is fucked up. We used to have Friday night keg parties in the same woods back in our juvenile delinquent days and we left the woods the way we found it despite how wild things sometimes got. Last spring a couple of neighbors and I spent a spring morning in our area of the woods cleaning and doing some trail maintenance. I guess this year sanding tree bark is on the to-do list as well!!

The problem is that the paint can affect the trees' health.

Yeah, I know. I'm no tree doctor, to be sure, but I would think that that amount of paint wouldn't kill the tree, but would be a minor irritant. Each year the outer bark of a tree becomes one of its inner rings, so I would think that even if left alone, the paint would become obscured by the next layer of bark within a year.
