Syndergaard appears to have a knack for this stuff. He's not exactly Tom Hanks, but his deadpan delivery seems to work. Loved the guy in the Mets Clubhouse store who says "Nah, just looking" when he asks if he can help.

He may not always be able to execute it flawlessly all the time, but he gets comedic timing more than most athletes.
