Hey, sorry about the obscure reference. Beltran's walk up music as a Met was "El Esta Aqui". BG commented that he heard it as "Vanis Takee". Since then, it's become Carlos's unofficial nickname. It's a favorite here at CPF. I heard that BG is trying to get someone to perform the song at this year's Cover Derby celebration but so far A-List performers have been shunning him.

This, coincidentally, came up last week, on the last page of this quiz thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25075&p=678440#p678440 Me and at least Rockin Doc didn't know what Vanis Takee meant. Now we have the origin story as well, which wasn't provided in the quiz thread. Other CPF slang decoded on that last page in that quiz thread ---- "avi".

I find it strangely gratifying that there are a few here who still remember "Vanis Takee" ten years later! It will probably be my most lasting contribution to American culture. And as for Beyonce, she's the girlfriend that I'm going to Cuba with!
