College Football Championship

My only interest in this game is that I've got a bushel-full of Clemson relatives - I think 9 grads and/or current students in total across two generations including spouses and potential ones. So while I have no skin in the game, I'd be happy for that branch of the family if the Orange ones prevail here tonight.
But that interest doesn't extend to me actually watching the game aside from peaking in at the score every once in a while - mainly because they're more than 3-1/2 hours past kickoff at this point (and god knows however hours into their telecast?) and it's only mid 4th quarter quarter ('Bama leading by 3). I have no idea what they stop these college games for these days -- apparently for whatever they feel like because the networks regularly block out 3-1/2 hours for even the regular season contests and the game consistently manage to run past even that -- and this being their final game there's probably even more dead time built in.

Had some association with both sides.
Our friends' son graduated from Clemson. He was at the game last night and must be mightily hung over.
My wife's cousin played for Alabama under coach Bear Bryant.

Clemson won on a last second (literally) touchdown.
Great game.

I watched the game, truly a great championship game. Gutsy move for the Clemson coach to forgo kicking the chip shot field goal in order to go for the winning touchdown. I like his style. Completing the winning touchdown pass with 1 second left on the clock was pretty much a do or die call. I was glad to see the underdogs win one.

Re: College Football Championship

So on the heels of at least three different U-Oregon players being hospitalized following workouts, we now have the death of a football player from Univ of Northern Michigan after a workout.
Even leaving aside for a moment the idea of driving teenagers to the point of exhaustion and beyond as a part of the culture of football, there's still a question I have here: Are we beyond even pretending that there's an off-season for these supposed 'student-athletes'? I mean, the season just ended a few weeks ago for many of these teams and they're already (still?) into workouts so heavy that the health of otherwise fit teenagers is jeopardized?!?!
