Re: Zimmo

When they signed Granderson, I figured that his job was to hold his position until Nimmo took it away. That still hasn't happened.

I additionally calculate if and when a position opens up—perhaps through a Bruce divestment—then Conforto moves into a platoon with Lagares, giving us an outfield of Céspedes-Conforto/Lagares-Granderson. This may also work with Granderson sliding over to center against lefties and Conforto taking his corner spot.

When another opening comes up—perhaps through an injury or Granderson being overtaken—Conforto becomes a corner outfielder and Nimmo becomes the lefthanded-hitting half of the centerfield platoon and the leadoff hitter of the future that he was born to be. Eventually that job becomes all his, I think.

Perhaps this doesn't all shake out until 2018, perhaps it happens within a week. Maybe Granderson ends his Met career as a pinch-hitting terror.

Re: Zimmo

Essentially, two dominoes need to fall. How you want to effect that is the question.

Re: Zimmo

I think he'll have more of a chance in 2018 with Granderson and Bruce gone. I can see an outfield of Cespedes, Conforto, Lagares, and Nimmo. Of course, the Mets may also decide to acquire a player from outside the organization at some point, but that's crazy talk.

Re: Zimmo

4th/5th outfielder. Rather have him than DeAza. Nice smile, though.

Re: Zimmo

until they move Bruce or Granderson, i think Conforto starts in AAA, with Nimmo in the role of 5th OFer/LH bat off bench. Nimmo's skills translate better to a backup, and his ceiling isn't as high as Conforto, so i think they'd rather see Conforto playing everyday instead of sitting on the bench. Whereas Nimmo is likely nothing more than a bench player anyway, so might as well get him started there.
