STMVP

Simple question: Who is your pick for Mets Spring Training MVP? Hitters and pitchers are eligible.

Feel free to elaborate. Do you have a STCYA Winner? A STRoY? A STRRPotY? A comeback guy? Bring it!

Re: STMVP

I'm going to pick Conforto for the MVP because I think he's motivated to have a strong spring.

For the Cy Spring Award I'll go with Gsellman, because he's competing for a spot in the rotation. (Lugo too, but I had to pick one of them.)

Re: STMVP

Is Butch Huskey anyone else's poster child for 'monster springs only
to settle back into mediocrity' or is that just me?

Re: STMVP

I just made a wish for Plawecki so I gotta stick with it. Bats just south of .400, pops a few bombs, and the Mets find time for him at DH, and even a few reps at first base.

For me it's Kelvin Chapman.

I always rooted for Butch Huskey. He wasn't great, but he wasn't bad, and he was fun to watch. I thought he'd finally made it when he landed with the Rockies in 2000, and hit .348. If he'd stayed there, he could have been Dante Bichette. But he signed with Cleveland and was never heard from again.

Re: STMVP

Butchie had a good half season with Seattle, too.

I'm coming in late and jumping on an early frontrunner, but I'm thinking this spring belongs to Gavin.

Re: STMVP

Matt Reynolds says "Don't count me out just yet".
I saw Butch play third in a game between his Binghamton team and the New Britain Red Sox AA team. He played third base and that's when I suspected that Butch was short for Butcher. He played a ground ball so badly that he kicked it all the way to the first baseman (too late to get the batter). But he sure could hit.

I know this may sound like bullspit, but I kinda had a feeling about Cecchini. Taijeron should do well, too.

Who was the big Cuban 1B that we had that never hit a lick in the regular season? I seem to recall him having a big spring or two.
