Great Again, America Shows Trump the Door Contest

While this is no laughing matter and the daily tweets and blurts and
chin dribble are dangerously disturbing; let's take a break, dream and
vote on when the 25th Amendment, Sec 4 is implemented!

Please choose a date and time:

March 13, 2017, 12 Noon EST

I don't think it will happen, but I think it should happen.

If it was up to the Senate majority I think we'd have a better chance.

I guess it depends on a combination of Mike Pence's ambition, conscience, wisdom, and loyalty. And while I know it's easy enough to disdain him (and I do) it's impossible to know what he'd really think about something like this.

Failing that, I think DJT fakes a heart attack and quits, pretty soon. No way does he have the desire to keep this up.

Re: Great Again, America Shows Trump the Door Contest

I've found that we're not the only ones talking about this.

The Chicago Tribune wrote:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opin ... story.html

In these dark days, some around the globe are finding solace in the 25th Amendment to the Constitution. This previously obscure amendment states that "the Vice President and a majority of … the principal officers of the executive departments" can declare the president "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office," in which case "the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President."

This is option three for getting rid of Trump: an appeal to Vice President Mike Pence's ambitions. Surely Pence wants to be president himself one day, right? Pence isn't exactly a political moderate — he's been unremittingly hostile to gay rights, he's a climate change skeptic, etc. — but, unappealing as his politics may be to many Americans, he does not appear to actually be insane. (This is the new threshold for plausibility in American politics: "not actually insane.")

Presumably, Pence is sane enough to oppose rash acts involving, say, the evisceration of all U.S. military alliances, or America's first use of nuclear weapons - and presumably, if things got bad enough, other Trump cabinet members might also be inclined to oust their boss and replace him with his vice president. Congress would have to acquiesce in a permanent 25th Amendment removal, but if Pence and half the cabinet declared Trump unfit, even a Republican-controlled Congress would likely fall in line.

http://www.salon.com/2017/01/25/dont-lo ... peachment/

...the language of the amendment clearly encompasses other scenarios besides physical incapacitation. This topic was a subject of discussion toward the end of the Reagan administration, when it became obvious that the president was suffering a loss of cognitive ability. It wasn’t invoked then but as we now know, Reagan was indeed suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Had it become more acute or obvious while he was in office, Congress might well have had to take action as laid out in the amendment.

It’s obvious that Trump has a narcissistic personality, which in itself is not disqualifying. He’s not the first president to have one; nor will he be the last. But his issues seem to run deeper than that. Some observers have suggested that he shows the characteristics of classic psychopathy. And there are plenty of people who see his behavior as blatantly self-destructive.

Of course it’s an extreme long shot that members of Trump’s Cabinet or the Republican leadership in Congress would ever take such a drastic step. (Although it’s not at all hard to imagine that in their hearts many of them would prefer President Mike Pence.) This would only happen if Trump really started to behave in a unhinged fashion. After all the bizarre behavior he has exhibited over the past 18 months, one cannot help but wonder: What could possibly count as going too far? It’s almost too terrifying to imagine.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2 ... /96926120/

...incapacitation by insanity is not something we have much experience with. Perhaps the closest we came is in 1974, as the Watergate scandal was closing in on Nixon, when he began drinking heavily and close aides worried about his mental status. The 25th Amendment was not invoked, yet Defense Secretary James Schlesinger violated the chain of command and ordered the military to intercept all emergency orders, especially any involving nuclear weapons, and convey them to him or to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger for clearance.

None of these precedents but the last is pertinent to the situation we'd face if President Trump went off his Oval Office rocker. Though it is impossible to forecast how such a dangerous scenario would play out, we do know this: “25th Amendment” would be the two words on everyone’s lips.

And there's a lot more!

But he will soon discover he doesn't like the job and will resign at midnight on January 1, 2019, giving Mike Pence almost two years to run as an incumbent.

I doubt they consider impeachment until more violence comes.

Trump has emboldened ISIS exponentially in the past week. He has been polarizing American citizens based on class and race for well over a year now. He bullies our enemies and insults our friends.

The only thing I can agree on is that his style is not sustainable.

With all due respect, fuck off with that ignorant noise.

If you don't see systemic racism or its still-palpable aftereffects in our country's political superstructure, well, it's almost certainly because you've been a beneficiary of it (unwitting or otherwise). I don't presume to know what it's like to grow up black, or transgendered, or as part of a farming family. You don't get to tell people what they are or aren't experiencing. Acknowledging this truth doesn't make one divisive, heaping bullshit on the national discussion; it marks one as a realist, someone who's willing to pick up a shovel to help clear what's still there, suffocating and smothering. You're unwilling to dig? Then sit down and shut up while the rest of us do the hard work.

As to the other thing... yeah, we'll be a millions-of-acres-wide crater, ringed by bombed-out Wal-Mart husks, before any emergency Trumpectomy. What do I win when I'm right about that?

at least, that's what the Republicans use as a campaign platform to try to drum up support, for a very loosely defined sense of 'class' and 'race' so that it seems to incorporate a large amount of people. None of it's actually true of course, but who campaigns on truth anymore?

Well, now it's all five. :)

I don't think my timetable is moved up any. Mueller's investigation is going to take at least a year, if he's allowed to finish it. It'll take months beyond that for any serious proceedings to take place; in fact I'd expect Republicans to delay any action until after the election. If they take a drubbing, they'll take it out on Trump. If they do better than expected they may find ways not to impeach.

There'll always be that 40% who think this is all made up, no matter how much evidence you give them. They'll still be waiting for America to magically become Great Again.

I still think he resigns rather than gets impeached. He hates being President but loves getting his ass kissed. Once he stops getting those buttock smooches, he'll find an excuse to move on.
