I don't know, but I just don't see this going well. She certainly fits the fading-star pedigree for these things, but we know McCartney, Springsteen or the Stones would not do anything stupid. Gaga? I don't know.

I think Gaga's name was mentioned more often during the first half than Brady's. If one didn't know better you'd think it was a LGG concert with a football game as a side attraction. As far as the halftime show itself (which I half watched) did anyone NOT guess: - lip-synching? - high-wire acrobatics? - glitzy (ridiculous) costumes, and multiples of them? - several dozen dancers on stage for no apparent reason? - hordes of teenage "volunteers" surrounding the stage cheering the act as instructed like North Koreans at a Kim-Jung Un speech? - high-tech lights shows and over-the-top pyrotechnics? It's like each year's act is a carbon copy of the previous one. The only thing different this year is that the act was somehow permitted to do thew hole 15 minutes without a co-star as backup.

If you didn't enjoy that, then, well, I suspect you've got a very, very specific idea of what a Super Bowl halftime show should be. Lady Gaga's not my favorite performer on earth, but she was perfect for the vehicle, venue, and time. Big, gay, and f$cking fantastic.

Great game. Nobody has torched Atlanta like that since General Sherman. Brady showed where there's a WILF there's a way. And I went ga-ga over Lady Gaga. A nice touch was that the "1" in the countdown to her performance was spoken by Tony Bennett. Later

Pretty smart, as people searching out the half time stuff get treated to the news. anyway, I like Gaga, not that my opinion of music means anything. (or really anyone's means anything yay opinions!) But upbeat and fun and glitzy and showy and a good singer seems like perfect for the venue, and people seem generally positive. Not going to give her "went directly from 'God Bless America' to a subtle Woody Guthrie raised-fist before jumping off a stadium directly into kung-fu choreography" or "gave VP Pence and the stick-to-music crowd a 15 minute fuck-you BY sticking expressly to the music?" She's always been about spectacle (I don't believe there was any thesis behind the meat dress, say; you may be thinking of Madonna), for better or (often) worse. She's just using her powers for good now.

I watched Columbo during halftime. I had always just assumed that the teenaged volunteers were imported directly from Pyongyang after Kim Jong-Il coached them. That's not actually true?

BORN THIS WAY is an LGBTQ anthem, and its quite explicit on that point. After GOD BLESS AMERICA, she then sang THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND, a radical folk song Guthrie wrote as a critique of GOD BLESS AMERICA. So right, no speeches just songs about inclusion, and about our country being for all the people, with an implicit rejection of the simple-minded theology of GOD BLESS AMERICA. Not political? puhleez. oh, and Gaga is Ga-great. I'm gay for Gaga.
