The Edge of Seventeen: José Reyes
Edgy MD Mar 16 2017 12:38 PM |
Could any man without a job be so guaranteed playing time? I'm the thirdbaseman until Wright gets back, and there's serious questions as to whether that will ever be happening. I'm historically a shortstop and our starting shortstop is creaky. The two guys on the right side of the infield have questions about how consistently they can handle lefthanders. A couple of our outfielders do also. I can play outfield. I totally can.

I wonder if any of those words of wisdom inked onto his rib cage say anything about either not hitting your own wife or not impregnating someone else's?

I'm kind of fearful of a big regression for Jose. I think the half-season did him well last year, and by August, I think he will be out of the picture. Either because of injury or lack of production. SS will be Cabrera/Reynolds/Rosario, and Cecchini/Rivera will play 3B.

I like that he has to sing for his supper still, even tough, that may get him cranky and less productive than we'd like at times - seen it before. Also, you never know with his health. I still can't comprehend the whole Macky Shillstone episode, how a healthy young 20something stolen base champ misses an entire year and needs to be taught how to run again etc etc. I've always been suspicious of what we know about his training -- blood spinning, etc. -- and what we could speculate. yyybbb

I wish Flores would get a lot of the PT apparently slated for Reyes.

big question for Reyes is probably how many games. That's the interesting number.

Although it's not like anyone else on this squad is busting the OBP-a-thon meter either. It would be fine with me if he didn't lead off, but there's also no other obvious answer.

yeah, and Reyes is better than Granderson. I'd probably put Asdrubal up there. I mean, I'd put Wright there too, but it's not a Reyes question then. Ultimately the Mets lineup is pretty deep and you're gonna end up with someone hitting 7th who probably typically shouldn't.

I think he'll get a lot of playing time, and be similarly productive as he was last year.
