Not just an indoor gym goalie but also in outdoor 'Dek hockey' where, for a period of several years, I was a legend in my own mind. Also today, birthday #70 for Dick Fosbury. A sub-par high-jumper as a teenager, he went against all tradition and coaching to improvise his own technique eventually dubbed, and often ridiculed, as the 'Fosbury Flop'. All it did was revolutionize the event and by the age of 21 he had a gold medal and an Olympic record. Within a few years most jumpers were using his method and today there's probably no one who doesn't.
