IBT 03/14-03/15 - Hype or Reality?

12-18" with 50-60 mph wind gusts seems to be the consensus.
I like that the morning after will fall on the Ides of March.

I'm NW enough that it's more 1-2 feet but seeing winds closer to 40.

seems pretty sure at this point.

18-24", per the latest, expect at least 10" per the NWS.

seems legit.

Actually, we're getting a little bit of snow here, too. Flurries have already started, and we should get 4-7" when it's all done.

Life is good. I have my Generac generator that we got after Sandy, and my son is home from college so I can put him to work shoveling.

I think I'll have a beer.

Oh, and they're talking about the snow mixing with rain, so LI people may be disappointed.

Just before we closed yesterday, the boss went around and asked everyone if we had the phone number to call to find out if the company will be closed because of the blizzard.
Everyone looked at him with an expression that said "Are you f'n kidding"?

According to NBC Connecticut News (at 9:15) the snowfall in my town is already 7.5 inches.. (Yeah, I know)

There's a special place in hell for those who yap about how they hope the precip 'changes' from snow so that the accumulation stays lower - as if the measured total is the only way to assess a winter storm.
I'll take 15 inches of snow over 1 inch of ice any time.

I'm more annoyed by those "Ha! I live in Florida!" posts, from people who seem to think they're so smart to live in a place with warm weather. I could live in Florida too, if I wanted to. And the only reason I don't live in Florida is because it would require spending most of my time in Florida.

Hard to tell with the wind but I guess it's approaching a foot already here. We're far

Snowing and blowing.
14.5 inches here, the highest reported total (so far) in Connecticut. I tried to shovel close to the garage door, and felt a pain in my back. I'll wait for my plow guy to do the rest. But I can't imagine what it will be like to shovel out my car tomorrow morning.

I guess we got lucky, because although we got about 18" it was very light. My hubby has to have hip surgery and I demanded he didn't come out, but the plow made it too much for me at my "ahem" advanced age. Two teenaged boys came along and helped me and I was happy to give them $20 a piece.

Prolly out there a total of six times so far, mostly because of my beloved outdoor cat that had the most mournful pleading cry ever this morning at 8:30 when I went out to dig her out of her trailer park. First the first of five times.

If it weren't for her I probably would have said the hell with it; I'll do it tomorrow

I think it's finally stopped. Our street is a nightmare, the sidewalks have
two feet or so of wet/frozen plow mess. Driveway is pretty good, which is
most important, the rest will have to be done a little at a time the next day
or so. This snow kicked my white ass, worst since we've been here.

We've gotten 20" so far, my wife shoveled for 90 minutes this afternoon while I was at work, and I just did a 45 min stint, plus my neighbor was kind enough to do the bottom of our driveway twice with his truck/plow. I'll be back out there in about 8 hours. Kids were off today and likely will be tomorrow as well. Fwife closed her day care center for the first time in 13 years running it.

Its snow and ice on the tires, causing them to be unbalanced. When you drive, he heat eventually melts the ice off, bringing them back into balance. If you take time to clear off the tires before you drive, including between the spokes on your hub caps or rims, the vibration usually doesn't happen.

Thanks for your concern, folks. I called my doctor, who asked a series of questions and concluded that it was low blood sugar*. He told me to be sure I have something to eat before I try it again and to call him immediately if I still had a problem.
So I ate lunch, rested a while. Then my wife and I went outside for a few minutes to finish cleaning out from under the car.
No problema.

Re: IBT 03/14-03/15 - Hype or Reality?

We got a total of about 21" of snow at my place. It was four giant rounds of shoveling - my wife did the first one during the day Tuesday as she was off, and I was out there Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, and late in the day yesterday. My back is a bit tight.

I did manage to still get out and run twice, not my normal pace, but well bundled and hyper aware of cars in the vicinity of where I was. Up here this is just a big storm, the nature of which is common. We get one or two of these per year, it seems.

There was more hype about this one and more stuff closed, I think partially due to the nature of it further south. I'm surprised so much stuff was closed yesterday as the weather during the day was pretty typical for Syracuse in March.

We got about 18 inches of powder. I live in a rural area so the roads drift closed again pretty quickly when the wind blows. Got two snow days out of it and two hour delay today but I'm back with my grandson today!

Lots of local wrecks and parking etc iffy

Seems like all I did Tuesday and Wednesday was shovel so I'm glad to get away from that for a day!
