The Edge of Seventeen: Travis Taijeron

Know what gets you called up the big leagues? Well, a good season at AAA. Should do it.

I mean, you'd think, right? Well, I had me one of those in 2015. Fat lot of good it did me. No callups. No September look-see. No thin association with a playoff-bound team.

But, you know, breaks are breaks. Go back and do it again. So I went back and did it again. You know what the Mets did for me? Bupkis.

I got 44 home runs over 256 games over the two seasons. I drove in 159 runs. I hit .275 and reached base at a clip 100 points higher. What the devil? I'm not even on the roster. I mad. Mean mad. I'm an unstoppable sex machine and they're giving all their opportunities to the wrong Travis. When will I be loved? 'Cuz I've got a coach's number and a bag full o' lumber. Watch me hit.

Biggest problem this guy's got ... he's a REALLY BAD outfielder.

Plays the outfield like he's on roller skates. Eventually gets traded to the AL where he belongs.

I think he played in all three games I saw this month, so they clearly wanted to see what he has to offer.

I learned the last name is pronounced "Tyrone."

I suppose he has an outside shot at some DH time if a bunch of guys get injured but not predicting that.

Gets released when June draft produces college outfielder and winds up signed by Oakland.

To quote Dick Young talking about MFY left fielder Hector Lopez, "He plays fly balls like they're going to explode on contact".
But the balls do explode off his bat in the minors. Someone in the AL will want him.
Traded in mid season.

We've caught a theme here. I'm sure he's bad, but I doubt he's re-writing the book on badness.

Probably not, but I've been saving up that quote to use for a long time. :)
