The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

Signing on as a spare starting pitcher with the Mets seemed like folly, huh? I mean, I was like 11th in pecking order when I signed. But Verrett is an Oriole, and Ynoa is an Oriole, and Wheels isn't back yet, and Matz is balky, and things are looking up.

I mean down! Things are looking DOWN when your teammates get hurt, but ... you know, opportunity! I'm a Long Beach State Dirtbag, so I look to join the illustrious company of Rod Gaspar, Steve Traschel, Carlos Muniz, and Jeremy Reed, to say nothing of fellow potential future Mets such as Jeff McNeil, Austin McGeorge, and Somebody McSomething. Kinda makes you want to treat me with a little more respect, doesn't it? I also played quite a bit for the Toledo Mud Hens. Not a lot of people get to be a Dirtbag and Mud Hen in the same life.

I'm a lefthander, which puts me in the bullpen picture too. I've pitched for the Detroit, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Anaheim organizations, including nine games in the bigs, and I've played some in Korea.

I threw 9.1 innings over five games this spring, and logged a 1.93 ERA, whiffing seven, while walking two. I've been around, I haven't stuck, but I must've impressed somebody if I'm here, so I don't particularly give a shit if I've impressed you.

I take that back. What do you think of me? Dying to know. I need a home!

Starts six games in June and July, goes 6-0, and gets traded at the deadline for Kershaw.

That seems plausible.

He'll trade his Las Vegas uniform for another major league one in June.

Ends up on the Royals somehow in 2017.

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

I guess he's gonna have the season I already predicted for Montero: He's get a few innings when the injuries and ineffectiveness pile up, probably in late May, then again just before the All-Star Break, and a third visit following the triumphant clinch, while spending most of the year cheating on his wife in Vegas.

If he has a wife.

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

Adam is a lefty journeyman who has enjoyed two cups of coffee with Detroit and one with Anaheim, and holds the distinction of being knocked out of a game by Prince Fielder, while playing on the same side as Fielder.

No one predicted "getting a shot at a major league gig due to a big black rubber dick?" You guys are slipping.

OK, so he traded his Las Vegas uniform for OUR major league one. And I missed by a month. The crystal ball was a little clouded.
Welcome to the club, Adam.

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

So now this kid has a fluttery major league start all because some douchebag shits the bed on his team

So much for magical dreams

I hope Harvey is soon working at a Walmart. In the doll clothes department. In Boise

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

It wasn't his first major league start. IIRC Howie said that he had four previous starts, the most recent being in 2012 (for reference's sake, that was before Harvey's Major League debut, meaning that he's not much of a kid either.).

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

Yeah after looking into it I see that now

But that doesn't excuse Harvey for being so self centered when this team is in turmoil and could use him to act like a man

Re: The Edge of Seventeen: Adam Wilk

I'm still withholding judgment on Harvey until we hear exactly what happened.

He's definitely not a rocket scientist, but I'm not yet ready to pronounce him a douchebag. As I've said before, I've never seen any evidence that he's done anything mean-spirited towards another person. I want to know what he did before beating up on him.
