DFA Fever

Players DFA'd (or released outright, in some cases) as teams pare down rosters and add non-roster players in time for opening day.

Even if you'd never seen him play, you'd know he's a overrated "scrappy" middle infielder just on his name alone.

Scooter is also a Cincy native, it's like us giving the John Lannan's a chance.

Gun to your head*, which of those three outfielders would you take on until Laggy gets back.

Blanco.

Gregor Blanco used to be good. I think it was only as recently as the leadup to the Cespedes trade that he seemed like a possibility of helping the Mets.

The question is whether Blanky can still cover center meaningfully better than Grandy, I guess.
Lannan is back with the Nats on a minor league deal. I thought they had a bad breakup. I don't remember why, but I don't like that particular guy. I think he just pitched above his level when facing the Mets.

No one seems to be tempted by the fruit of Erik's brother.

I'm always tempted by the novelty of bruddas. In my dream, there's room for Chase d'Arnaud and Yoelqui Céspedes too.

IIRC, Tyler was a Rule 5 guy and probably was swimming over his head last season, if he'd be amendable to join his bro in Vegas I suppose it couldn't hurt us. I used to like Erik more than I do anymore. He's like a less talented reliever version of Matz.

I wasn't suggesting it, mostly just wanted to get the parody in.

Coghlan, prolly.

Expected to not make the roster in Oakland, and opt out of his contract rather than accept a AAA assignment: Alejandro De Aza.

Chris Coghlan signs with Toronto and is assigned to AAA Buffalo.

Melvin (aka" BJ) Upton - released by Toronto. This season is the final one of the five year deal he signed with the Braves back in November of 2012.

Upton, eh? If we can snag him on a minor-league hook, I change my vote.

Batting line of .218/.288/.356 w/46 HRs over 1,600 ABs for three teams since signing that deal w/Atlanta (2013-2016)

he was weirdly okay with the Padres which makes me suspect the park effects for Petco need to be adjusted. Higher BABIP there so might just be that balls fell in. Anyway, I've always, and would still, prefer Angel Pagan. technically not a DFA, but available.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 02 2017 09:56 PM Re: DFA Fever |
Pagan would work, too.
|
Frayed Knot Apr 02 2017 10:31 PM Re: DFA Fever |
Pagan, even though not quite what he was, would still be the better all-around bench player of those two.
