The Sewald file:

Sixth Met named Paul, following in the Paulprints of Siebert, Gibson, Byrd, Wilson and Lo Duca.

Twenty-first Met born in the 1990s, ninth born in 1990. Paul came into this world on the same date Davey Johnson managed his last Met win, 5/26/1990. Four days later, Zack Wheeler emerged, though not on the active roster.

Lifetime MLB ERA is 54.00. He'll probably lower it.

Chance that he is a one game Met? Very strong!

Though I doubt he'll challenge Greg's picks for most insignificant one based on the reasoning behond hos Met appearance.

It's hard to outbottom Garrett Olson.

Re: Met Count 2017

Wilk will linger in the Met subconscious for a while given the absurdity surrounding his promotion and the lengths he went to get here. I wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves referring to "another Adam Wilk" next time an unheralded journeyman is suddenly the starting and decisively losing pitcher. He nudges Brett Hinchliffe to the side in my mind.

Olson owns a record that I secularly pray is never broken.

Jose Santiago remains transcendently insignificant in a Metsian context.

It's pretty impressive to go 30 games with but a single new Met and we may end up getting two or three in two or three days.

Re: Met Count 2017

First five new Mets for 2017 were/are pitchers. That's unprecedented.

Sewald, Pill and Zack Wheeler were born within a four-day span of one another during the final week in 1990. If they were switched near birth, it's nice to see them reunited at last.

Now that MLB is heading towards its 20,000th player ever -- currently at 18,998 acc. to BB-Ref -- this means that 5.43% of all ML'ers have been Mets at some point in their careers.

Our most likely candidate for MLB Player #20,000, According Crane Pool Roster Central: Matt Oberste, a burly 2013 pick currently firstbasin' and occasionally DH'ing for the Rumble Ponies.

Re: Met Count 2017

Does anyone know who the 10,000 player was?

And what's the starting point for this count? Does it go back to the 19th Century? Or does it just include the "modern era"?

Re: Met Count 2017

Their count does go back prior to 1901 and, while admitting that there's some ambiguity, they established a workable definition as to which years and leagues qualify as a 'Major Leaguer'
Couldn't find the specifics of what that definition is although I have seen it in the past.

Re: Met Count 2017

The "Major League" definitions were decided upon by that 1969 commission iirc and included the Union Association (1884) but not the National Association (1871-1875) even though those could probably be reversed

According to B-R, #10,000 was actually a Met, making his debut in September 1965.

OOH so close. Buddy was #9,996 on September 2.

edit/hint: Mr. 10K went 2-4 in his debut, batting eighth. He was a Met through 1968.

Met #1034 - A.J. Ramos

As mentioned by Gary, there are no periods in AJ
His listed name in BB-Ref is Alejandro with no middle name included. That leads me to believe that AJ probably stands for Alejandro Junior shortened to AJ and forgoing the punctuation.
