Bankruptcy, 2017

Following Sears/KMart's teetering on the edge of oblivion, 130-year-old power giant Westinghouse is taking the plunge into Chapter 11.

Following what they detected as renewed public confidence nuclear power, Westinghouse has been trying to build some plants in red states down south, which now look to join Long Island's own Shoreham in the great history of plants that never open, but remain on the landscape, monuments to impotency.

A classick American brand, Westinghouse has been controlled by Japanese giant Toshiba since 2007, following the Viacom takeover of CBS. The Japanese control may have influenced the faith in nukes. Though the corporation looks to restructure, Toshiba wants to sell.

More bad news for Pennsylvania. In my fantasy, the whats left of Westinghouse merges with the carcass of Sears. somehow.

It was a Westinghouse poster that has become the most iconic image of Rosie the Riveter, though ironically, it was only used for a few weeks in a few midwestern plants, aimed at workers of both genders. It was only in the 1980s that it became the definitive image of the cultural icon.
