Thirteen Years of Schaefer

(Stockholm, Sweden) Voting for the 2017 Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award will begin on Tuesday, April 4, the Crane Pool Forum has announced. This will be the thirteenth season that Crane Pool Forum members will be participating in Schaefer voting. The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year Award was established in the 1970's, and Schaefer points were awarded by Mets broadcasters Lindsey Nelson, Ralph Kiner, and Bob Murphy. The award was re-established by the Crane Pool Forum in 2005. Third baseman David Wright has been the winner in in six of the twelve years of the revived prize. The other winners were Johan Santana in 2008, Jose Reyes in 2011, Daniel Murphy in 2013, Lucas Duda in 2014, Jacob deGrom in 2015, and Yoenis Cespedes in 2016. The new voting format that was introduced for the 2016 season will continue. Instead of voting in dedicated Schaefer threads in the forum, voters will go to http://potg.ultimatemets.com and fill in an online Schaefer ballot. Voting for each game will open automatically as soon as the box score has been pasted into the Ultimate Mets Database. This will usually be the morning after each game has been played, but may in some circumstances be considerably later than that, according to CPF spokesmodel Benjamin Grimm. Voting will stay open for up to two weeks, after which the votes are tallied and the results are posted in the IGT thread. In addition, says Grimm, each month a Schaefer Mets Player, Pitcher, Relief Pitcher, and Bench Player of the Month will be named.

There's a (used to be ) free internet news distribution service called PRweb.com https://app.prweb.com/Login.aspx If its still free, put that announcement up on that site, let them send it out, and see what happens. We used it when our start-up was just starting up and got some leads. There's a committee that screens the applicants to make sure they're news-worthy (there are several categories) and their distribution is based on that sreening. Worth a try. Might be fun. LAter

Baseball Reference still doesn't have a box score up for yesterday's game, just a broken link. I'll have to check back later, but until that box score is posted, and I've had a chance to react to it, Schaefer voting will be delayed.

I realize the majority of this is David Wright, but I like how many winners (10 of the 12) are still with the team.

I realized after the fact that I shortchanged Robles from Opening Day. Then, after he imploded in the season's second game, I stopped feeling badly about it. These things really do even out.

It looks like somebody lobotomized Baseball Reference. I'll check in again from time to time throughout the day, but until they post their boxscores, Schaefer voting for the game of April 12 will be delayed.

We're fourteen games into the season, and we have four people (at the moment) who have voted in every game, and a few others who are just a little short of perfect attendance. All games will remain open for another week and a half. Remember, if you vote in every game you'll get a non-existent prize that's of zero value! A glitch in the otherwise finely tuned Schaefer brewery presents pitchers who don't pitch but hit or run -- Wheeler and Gsellman on April 21, for prime example -- as pitchers with non-existent pitching lines.

I'm not sure how that could happen. I see that you (and "Lunch") have voted in 17 of the 19 games. Zvon has voted in 13. Vic Sage and FK in 7. (BEWARE: Games are closing soon! Don't blow your chance at a perfect voting record!) And five other people who have voted in one game each. Perfect voting record so far (through 19 games) for Ashie62, Benjamin Grimm, G-Fafif, TMF, TransMonk, and LWFS.

Schaefer Brewing Company has announced plans to expand its flagship Crane Pool brewery in response to demand for more points stemming from the Mets' 14-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on July 14. "The Mets generated 19 hits, while starting pitcher Jacob deGrom gave up only four over eight innings while striking out 11," said a brewery spokesman. "Factor in deGrom's two hits at the plate, and he's in position for Player of the Game honors." The problem -- "and it's a pleasant one," the spokesman stressed -- was deGrom's excellence represented just one of several landmark performances. "You've got Cespedes with four hits and that throw to the plate. You've got Conforto with a three-run homer, [T.J.] Rivera with two hits, a homer and three RBIs, Cabrera with three ribeye steaks, Reyes going 3-for-5 and scoring three runs, Duda having a big night and even d'Arnaud with the really good tag and a couple of runs scored." Given all the positive activity at Schaefer's plant, the company will be adding capacity in an effort to "award as many points as possible to as many deserving Mets as possible." An industry analyst, however, doubts the effort will be sufficient.
