The only good thing about this game is that can't officially go into the books as a loss until it ends and, at this rate, I don't think it's ever actually going to end.

2-1/2 hours / 5 innings. This sport is committing (very) slow speed suicide.

According to MLB.com I am blacked out for all Washington Nationals & Baltimore Orioles game (whether home or away). Since I couldn't see the game I was out running errands with my wife this afternoon after church. I have never been so happy to be blacked out on a game. WHat a brutal beat done. To make matters even worse, it seems Syndergaard should have submitted to the MRI examination before going out there and hurting himself (and the team).

As I mentioned the other day, the only way this should happen is if MASN is available via one or more of whatever cable providers are in your area.
I think you said that it USED TO BE available but isn't anymore so you may still just be on some list saying it is.
I'd try contacting them and explain that - particularly seeing as how these are all division games (Nats + Braves) which means you're paying full price for only 3/4 of a season (38 blackouts).
That the Braves are blocked out is understandable since I assume you get (or could get) their home station 'Sports South' in your area, but they shouldn't be taking Nats (or O's) games away when you can't get them otherwise.

The worst that can happen is they say 'No' and you're no worse off than you are now - but Zvon said it worked for him (with different teams) so it's worth a shot.

It's not about displacing starting depth, it's supplementing it by have pitchers at AAA who are ready to step in as necessary. It might mean Doug Fister, it might mean making a trade but if you look at the 51s roster, there don't appear to be good alternatives to Gilmartin and Montero.

Either the Mets passed on Doug Fister, same as 29 other teams, or more likely, Fister wasn't interested in a minor league contract.

I don't know what a good option is. Which teams outclass the Mets in having better #9 and #10 pitchers than they do? Wilfredo Boscan has a 2.50 ERA through four starts in the PCL. And Montero has a 1.87 ERA through two. I imagine if the Mets thought Doug Fister could be had on a minor league deal and give more bang for the buck than Boscan, Doug Fister would be in Vegas. But I don't think for a minute that anybody refused to sign players. They had more pitching depth than their big league roster could contain, and had to sell off Verrett and Ynoa before the season started.

The rules are written to keep teams from stockpiling too much big-league ready talent. And so injuries hurt all the more. It's just the way it is.

Re: IGT 04/30 - Mets (time to rock) the Nats some more

I can't really fault them for not having more than seven starting pitchers. They came into spring training with unprecedented depth. It's just terribly unfortunate that they had to burn through it so quickly.

Re: IGT 04/30 - Mets (time to rock) the Nats some more

What an awful end to this series. First, the exaltation brought by Friday nights scary down to the wire win, followed up by Saturdays victory and Confortos 2 bombs...

I didn't think anything could bring me down. And it's not the loss, that's just one game. Or the shellacking we took. It's, of course, that Syndergaard went down again, this time in visible pain. Woe is me.

Lot of fans coming down on the Mets medical personnel, namely Ray Ramirez, because that's the only name they know. Well, I've been questioning their competence for years. But this time it was all on Noah.

The whole MRI situation has been overblown IMO. This is a different injury. He came out today throwing too hard. He was rusty with no movement on the fastball, which he was hurling at a healthy 100mph. But in the bigs a flat fastball, no matter what the speed, ain't gonna get it done. They teed off on Noah.

But still, the only thing that really bothered me was seeing him out there in pain. A Met fans worst nightmare.

So it's April and we are already in recovery mode. Not good.

Did you see one last year? Baseball is hard.

And Sammy Hagar really doesn't have that much depth in his catalog.

Edgy MD
May 01 2017 12:56 AM
Re: IGT 04/30 - Mets (time to rock) the Nats some more

Certainly less depth than the Mets' starting pitching anyhow.

This score reminds me of this game, which was strange in that the Mets hadn't been hitting consistently, and folks looked at the seven runs as a positive sign, and wrote off the 26 they gave up. It was looked at as rock bottom, but they won the next day before losing the next four, so the turnaround wasn't as instant as all that. It was last game with the team for Joe Sambito, who may have been there on the Everybody from Brooklyn Gets a Chance plan.

Yup!
I'd much rather win two of three and lose the blowout rather than win big while losing twice.
Blowouts are embarrassing while they're happening but if you're going to not pitch, not hit, and not field, you might as well suck at each all at once.

Turn the page.
