Rub fish with garlic and leave garlic on fish. In pan or large ziploc, combine olive oil, juice
of 1/2 lime, soy sauce, and green onion. Add fish and marinate about 1 hour.
In medium bowl, combine juice of 1 lime, mango, onion, salt, sweet pepper, and parsley.
Chill while fish is marinating.
Grill marlin over medium heat about 7-8 minutes per side. Top with fruit salsa and serve.

Miami at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Friday, May 5, 2017
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
By Gracenote

Not much has gone right for the New York Mets over that past three weeks, including on the weather front. After rain wiped out the finale of a seven-game road trip in Atlanta on Thursday, the Mets return home Friday to open a three-game series against the Miami Marlins, who have won five of seven meetings between the teams this season.

New York pounded out 30 runs in the three games at Atlanta, including a season-high 16 on Wednesday, and were holding a 3-1 lead Thursday when the game was postponed following a two-hour rain delay. Friday was the scheduled start for ace Noah Syndergaard, who is expected to be sidelined for at least three months with a torn lat muscle. The Marlins have dropped seven of nine overall after losing three of four to Tampa Bay in the Citrus Series, scoring a combined four runs in the three defeats. Miami's Tom Koehler faces the Mets for the first time this season Friday after struggling mightily against them in 2016, going 0-3 with with seven home runs and 29 hits allowed in 19 2/3 innings.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Tom Koehler (1-1, 5.40 ERA) vs. Mets RH Rafael Montero (0-2, 9.45)

Koehler lasted only four flushings for the second time in three starts, giving up three runs on six hits in a no-decision versus Pittsburgh last time out. He posted his only win at San Diego in his previous turn with six innings of three-run ball, but has surrendered seven homers in his five starts. Asdrubal Cabrera is 6-for-13 with a pair of home runs off Koehler.

Montero draws the unenviable task of trying to replace Syndergaard following his recall from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the week. Montero was hit hard in the last of his six relief appearances before his demotion to the minors, giving up four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning. He had a 1.74 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings at Las Vegas.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Thursday's postponement cost Mets RF Jay Bruce a two-run homer, which would have been his 10th of the season.
2. Marlins LF Marcell Ozuna is 9-for-22 during a six-game hitting streak.
3. Mets 3B Jose Reyes, who has multiple hits in four of his last seven games, is 5-for-10 against Koehler.

It used to be that postponed games didn't wipe away in-game stats. It kind of stinks.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

The forecast is for heavier rain earlier in the day with "showers" listed for game time and beyond. So, depending on their definition of "showers", this one is maybe 50/50 to come off tonight.
That means it could turn into a DH tomorrow where the forecast calls for ... wait for it ... showers starting around 5 PM.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

Yeah, NOAA's LGA forecast isn't too promising...

Today--Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 59. Breezy, with a southeast wind 14 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Tonight--Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then rain likely. Patchy fog. Low around 57. South wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday--Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday Night--A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph.

I don't think that's true. As long as I can remember, if a game fails to go the official distance, it's as if it was never played and the stats are discarded.

Stats have counted for official games, including ties, that end before nine inning have been played.

So a six-inning tie, the stats count. A four-inning washout, they don't.

What's changed is that games that get suspended now get continued. So if the rain came in the sixth inning, the Mets and Braves would have to complete the game at some future date. It would no longer stand as a complete six-inning game.

I think continuing from the fourth should be a viable option. Men fought and died last night. Honor that. Don't sweep it under the historical rug.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

I think that makes sense.

I find myself wondering if the few innings that Zack Wheeler threw last night will count towards his innings limit for the year. Or will they be forgotten?

Only if an otherwise official-length game were tied would it be suspended and picked-up later.
A six inning game with one team in the lead would still be counted as a completed game.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

Okay, maybe I'm thinking of the post-season. A six-inning game in the post-season would be completed even if one team is in the lead. That happened in 2008 with the Phillies and the Rays in the World Series.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

Right, they decided that all post-season games need to be (at least) nine innings to be considered official, essentially making up the rule on the spot during a delay during Game 5 of the 2008 Phils/Rays WS.
It became an official rule going forward after that but only for post-season games.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

I'd also like to send both teams to Miami and trade this doomed series for a future Miami series to be moved to New York.

The main problem with that is that, while ticket holders for this weekend's series in New York would get some August date instead (more or less their current predicament), ticket holders for some August date in Miami would be surprised and kinda screwed being told they have to be at the gate tonight or lose their ticket.

Of course, that would likely be no more than 19 people.

If four o'clock rolls around and the Mets haven't announced thier lineup, I suspect there's a transaction involved.

And if there is, it's probably about whether or not to activate Montero if they're only going to see the game he is needed to start called off.

Re: IGT 05/05 - Marlins at Mets - Fire up the Grill

I was figuring they would put Travis on the DL to activate Montero. If there's a rainout, I guess they might as well wait another 24 hours before deciding anything.

Is 4 p.m. the deadline for moves that would go into effect for tonight's game?

Travis on DL

Mets placed C Travis d'Arnaud on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 3, with a right wrist bone bruise.
D'Arnaud bruised the wrist a couple weeks ago and it began acting up again on him this week. He'll wear a splint and be shut down for a week before resuming baseball activities, so it won't be a minimum DL stay. Rene Rivera and Kevin Plawecki will handle the catching duties.

I am more comfortable with Rivera behind the plate anyway.

Decent first two innings from Montero with the exception that his penchant for nibbling has him throwing about three innings worth of pitches just to get through the first two.

Were one pitch from getting out of that inning at least five different times.
Although the bottom line is that if they're going to be two-hit by Tom Koehler then it's not going to be a win anyway.
The only good thing about Koehler tonight is that he's made 1/4 of the Marlins outs so far.

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 06 2017 01:07 PM

For those not viewing, the Mets caught up, and eventually went ahead, in essentially the same way they got behind: with some timely walks surrounded by every batted ball in an inning finding itself a hole.
In the end, the Marlins' six-run 4th and the Mets five-run 7th produced maybe two hard-hit balls combined and many of the hits could just as easily produced rally-killing GiDPs - especially with the Clydesdales
out there clogging up the base paths for the home team.

oe: and not just a 1-2-3 save for Familia, but a 7 pitch 1-2-3 inning. That's certainly a nice change of pace.
