Grandyman vs. Everybody

I don't think we necessarily have to declare an "odd man out" but if we do, shouldn't it be Grandyman?

I like the guy a lot, and 30 HRs is 30 HRs, but of the guys we got he really seems best suited among them to be a reserve, particularly if you can get him in to hit some right-handed pitching when you need a HR or a walk.

If we do use Grandy to start, I like him as a leadoff guy on road games vs. RHP and not a No. 4 guy, but the fact that he can do either for a good team is a good argument for his bench-ability.

That said, is he even considered to be a "starter" for his next contract, whomever gives it to him? Maybe a last-place kinda team in his hometown like the White Sox, maybe.

Grandy makes me think. Share your thinks on Grandy here.

Re: Grandyman vs. Everybody

We're moving toward a Conforto/Lagares platoon. By next year, that will be replaced by a Nimmo/Lageres platoon and Conforto will be a full timer.

But for now, the Mets are dogged by good luck in the situation. Nobody solved their outfield pinch by making the offer Alderson wanted for Bruce, who is now hitting the cover off the ball, and injuries haven't solved the issue either. Maybe by next week they will.

If they don't, Grandy and his topspin drives looks like a bench asset. That said, he's still got the best OBP tool of the mix. He's started slowly every year of his contract anyhow.

Re: Grandyman vs. Everybody

I mean, right now the safest bet is Granderson over Lagares or Conforto when it comes to hitting. Maybe Conforto will actually start hitting regularly and it'll be a moot point, or Lagares will hit enough to carry him (I kinda like shifting towards Cespedes, Lagares, Conforto by July) but Granderson is still a good player and as these games are important, he should still be playing a bunch.

Also he's still better than Bruce, and so is Conforto likely. Bruce's defense is SO bad.
