Death of a Gsellman

I missed his turn last night but what's the deal with this guy? Been getting beat up a little more than I expected given his strong spring.

Observations? Diagnosis? Recommendations?

Growing pains. It'll get better or it won't. Fifth starters sometimes need patience.

Re: Death of a Gsellman

He had a bad first inning. The runs should have been unearned, but he still gave up a bunch of baserunners and a grand slam.

I think his problems in the fifth inning were because he was kept in the game too long. I was thinking as I was watching that if a starter didn't need five innings to get credit for a win, he would have been pulled a little earlier. And he should have been pulled a little earlier.

I'm not ready to panic yet, but obviously yesterday was a bad day for him. Let's see what happens over the next few starts.

Re: Death of a Gsellman

Defense didn't do him any favors last night. Two separate grounders scored as hits (one egregiously wrong, the other questionable) could have made things a lot easier and certainly helped push his pitch count up (over 30 in the 1st inning alone).
The four runs in the 1st inning was essentially on one hard-hit ball, although his biggest crime was walking AJ Ellis in front of the big boys.

Well, he's 'Loman' on the totem pole. I think like others that he just ran out of gas in the 5th. His pitches were moving pretty well when he retired 10 in a row, but seemed to lose movement as he tired.

At which point the fans were asking; "Where's the Biff?"

Re: Death of a Gsellman

It seemed like nothing but there's a little shit going down between Sandy and Gsellman. Sandy had previously suggested that Gsellman's rehab wouldn't determine the speed with which he would return but whether he actually pitched well. Informed of this Gsellman replied "I don't care." Informed ot THAT, Alderson said " I hope he reflects on the potential consequences of that statement."

Fuck Gsellman.

Never liked his I'm too cool to care attitude.

Care. And get better.

Really. Attention must be paid.

Re: Death of a Gsellman

With Harvey having a good rehab assignment in Bingo -- 3 innings/36 pitches/1 hit -- Gsellman would be wise not to assume his spot in the rotation is safe even with Lugo out of the picture.

His comments ring with irony to my ears-- I kinda never cared about him, either (even during last year's found-money homestretch).
