Let's not get TOO down here

- it's early - the losing streak has merely dropped them to .500 - faring better than several of the other 2016 playoff teams*, including that one that won 103 games and broke some kind of curse - and mainly that the 7 losses to date are essentially two games where they played like shit and five where they lost via the other side's final AB: two in extra innings, twice via walk-offs, and the Marlins getting 3 in the 8th at home. IOW, we've been ahead or right there in 12 of the 14 games and really only "stole" the 15-inning one Now, granted, those kinds of losses are more frustrating than most, especially since the Familia suspension can be seen as a factor, but they don't count against you any more than does a "normal" loss. The disturbing part has been the pen (again, help is coming) where it seems like each night it's someone else's turn to suck, and as much as we want the heads of Montero and Edgin on pikes, it's not like Robles, Salas, Blevins, and Reed have spotless records either. * Cubs = 7-7 (and losing as we type) Indians = 7-7 Blue Jays = 2-11 !! Rangers = 5-9 Giants = 6-9

Not to be a broken-assed record, but the most disturbing part to me is the .316 OBP.

Braves-Marlins-Phillies-Marlins-Phillies. Yeah, it's early, and the losses were close, but these are the teams we should be playing .700 against. And putting aside the score, that looked like a bad team on the field yesterday. If the Mets can win the next two against the Phillies and take two out of three from Washington this weekend, that'll turn my frown upside down.

The 2015 and 2016 teams got off to rocking starts in April before becoming disappointing in May, June and July. Maybe the 2017 team is trying to reverse that trend.

Well, we've got at least one reason to not be TOO down today as the Pirates tried really, really, really hard to blow their game vs the Yanx this afternoon but were able to justbarely not suck at sucking and held on to the 2-1 win. I mean they hit into 3 DPs to end innings, two other times they loaded the bases with no outs and scored a total of one run out of those situations, then blew a potential game-ending GiDP by muffing the ball and getting neither out so that now the Yanx had a bases-loaded/one-out deal which I was sure they were going to cash in but didn't. Pitt wound up taking two of three which was the first series this year that they didn't either sweep or get swept.

Which means there is a good chance we have him for the entire second half. I'm good with that. *Matz and Lugo threw off the mound and had no discomfort. This is good. We are in a pitching crisis now, but if just one of these guys can be ready in a few weeks, we just have to hold the fort until then. The upcoming schedule is not tough. There is enough talent to win until then. *Ces and Duda are rehabbing. As is Flores. I would guess Wilmer will be the first back. Duda and Ces following within a week or two. Other reasons to be optimistic: *I actually thought Harvey was better than his line showed. His stuff seems to be coming back. You figure he's going to be rusty still after so much time off. Once he gets comfortable I think he will get that confidence and swagger back. Big second half for the Harvster. *We are two days into May and Michael Conforto is still hitting!

They won a series after losing seven in a row. Picked up a few games in the standings. Conforto. Some guys supposedly close to coming back. Off day tomorrow, no wound licking or I'll break out the banner.
