Righthander Jesse Chavez looks for his 30th career victory and a chance to stop the flaming hot Mets from extending their two-game winning streak. Trying to complete the sweep for the Mets is lefty Tommy Milone, himself looking for career win #46.

Keith also sells a hair dye that is only differentiated from other hair dyes by its higher price, picture of a dude on the package, and inclusion of a mustache comb inside.

You surprise me. It seems to be obvious math that the growth of the US population and the growth of the international talent pool has far outstripped the growth of available MLB roster spots.

I agree with your theory. But how much has the talent pool expanded? And since when? I wasn't watching the game when Keith spoke, so I don't know precisely what expansion period he was talking about, if any, or if he was just generalizing. MLB added two teams in 1998, just a few years after adding the Marlins and Rockies, for example. Did the talent pool expand so much in those four years before 1998 to account for two new teams without watering down the quality of MLB play? If the talent pool is as big as you suggest, and that there's room for more teams without watering down the quality of MLB play, then that means that it should be extremely easy to replace the two, three or four players at the bottom of every team's 25 man roster depth chart without suffering a noticeable drop in talent. But that, I don't see. OE -- Don't forget that -- assuming that talent evaluation is more or less accurate and efficient, when MLB expands, it adds players that otherwise would still be in the minor leagues. Two new teams means you'd have 50 new major leaguers, most of them worse than Adam Wilk and Rafael Montero. How is that not watering down the league?

A 9-2 loss in the walks column. That's where we're getting kilt on both sides of the ball.

I did the same thing (not the singing, the planting). At 7-0, the Mets loss became Home Depot's gain.

It's like the Mets forced Noah Syndergaard to get an MRI, and the MRI revealed he was Tommy Milone.

Is this the end of Mayday Milone? I think we've seen enough of him, but I'm not sure what the alternative is. Someone from Vegas? Another shot for Montero?

One day at a time right now, I think. Pill pitched today. He doesn't strike folks out, but he keeps the ball in the park, with only two homers in 56 1/3 innings. At 4-1 with 1.60 ERA, I would think he's got to be a candidate.

Because they add a team, on average once every 8.36 years. So yeah, if you measure it from the very minute before two teams were added to the very minute after, talent has been watered down. If you measure it over time, no it hasn't. Keith was speaking from his "day"—the midpoint of his career (the mexridian) being 1982—to now. Four teams have been added in 35 years since then. A 15.3% increase. The earth's population has increased by 63% in that time.

Teddyway, we got a scoreless inning from Neil Ramirez. So he gets off his shneid. But I think anybody who goes to bed with an infinite ERA even for one night, and has to enter his next appearance with "ERA: INF" on the scoreboard, gets to go home with a Lino Urndaneta Award.
