Scooter x 4

So even though it doesn't seem like anyone named 'Scooter' should be hitting any HRs, Scooter Gennett of the Reds hit four tonight vs the Cards after coming into the day with just 38 for his career.
'Hard Hittin' Mark Whiten also had 38 coming into the game when he hit four. Whiten was more of a HR hitter but had his big night earlier in his career as compared to Gennett.

Haven't looked up all the other 4-HR guys but I can't imagine anyone else had fewer.

Re: Scooter x 4

The only ones I know offhand-- Gehrig, Schmidt, Green, Mays, Delgado, Horner (only one to do it in a loss, IIRC)-- soitenly didn't.

Edit: Wrong on Horner-- Ed Delahanty also did it in a 9-8 loss for his 1896 Phils. Both he and Pat Seerey (1948, White Sox) both had 49 HR coming into the season in which they did their thing. Bobby Lowe, it seems, is our winner, with 28 career dingers prior to banging four... for the 1894 Boston Beaneaters.

I confuse Bob Horner and Ed Delahanty a lot also.

When Mike Cameron did it, three of the homers were off the same guy, but he wasn't the starter.

Har har. I meant that Horner wasn't the ONLY guy to do it in a loss.

Can you imagine how mind-blown the spectators would have been at a Dead-ball Era 4-HR game?
