Memories of Sean Gilmartin

Cards swoop up the lefty.

Rule 5er who rarely seemed worth the trouble. Hit well for a pitcher. Wore stirrups. Fox-y gf. Three scoreless IP in the 18 inning affair at St. Louis, the kind of game that gets a Sean Gilmartin action.

Bye.

A genial guy, if not a terrific pitcher. There's some untapped potential, but I don't think the Mets were ever going to tap it. I'd wish him good luck but, you know, the Cardinals....

Impugn his lady choices all you'd like, but you can't fault that taste in hosiery.

His gf is an idiot. That's the first thing I associate with him.

I thank him for his service and hope he never records another out in a major league uniform.

Pitched remarkably well as a Rule V-er, given the role Rule V-er's get: irregular work, lots of rest, benevolent spots, and emergency duty.

Given a chance for high leverage roles, it all went sideways.

I spoke to him very briefly during spring training and he seemed like a nice guy. Seemed to have potential -- until we needed him to step it up and reach the potential.

Best of luck to him. I hope he does well, unless we are facing him.

S/He was a party/Rule-5 pickup, had some good times in the beginning but it didn't last and now you've both moved on with no hard feelings.
It happens.

Not just the taste in hosiery, but he was the one with the full-blown socks technique where he'd put on his pants starting inside-out so as to keep the previously donned stirrups looking mahrvalus
throughout the game.

Re: Memories of Sean Gilmartin

I think the Mets pressed their luck with him when they sent him back to Vegas to stretch out after a pretty good year for us in the pen. He hasn't been right since, but he's a lefty with a pulse so he'll get his share of chances to redeem himself.
