IGT 6/13/17: CHC@NYM -- Zack In The New York Groove

Many years since we've been here...nah, only feels like it.

Goin' for five in a row with Ace Wheeler. He'll be opposed by some schlub of a Cub.

Jon Lester, if you wanna be technical about it.

Aka Jon "Wicked" Lester.

I expect him to break up over unresolved creative differences.

Chi. Cubs at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Tuesday, June 13, 2017
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
By Gracenote

The road woes continue for the Chicago Cubs, who haven’t won away from Wrigley Field in a month and have dropped nine straight on the road heading into the second of a three-game series against the New York Mets on Tuesday. The Mets have won four straight on the strength of dominant pitching and are trying to clinch their first series win at home since May 19-21 against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Mets won 6-1 in Monday’s opener, as Jay Bruce continued his recent hot streak by going 3-for-3 and hitting his 17th home run and Asdrubal Cabrera homered twice. Jacob deGrom tossed the Mets’ first complete game at home since Jon Niese in August 2013, and New York allowed just one run for the fourth straight game. Chicago has scored only 13 runs in its nine straight road defeats. Cubs left-hander Jon Lester hopes for better run support as he takes aim at his 150th career win after failing to reach the milestone last time out against Colorado.

TV:
7:10 p.m. ET, ABC 7 (Chicago), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Cubs LH Jon Lester (3-4, 4.13 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (3-3, 3.45)
After a complete-game gem against San Francisco on May 23, Lester has gone 0-2 with an 8.16 ERA over three starts since. The 33-year-old gave up four runs and six hits over five innings on Thursday against the Rockies, with all the damage coming in one inning, including a three-run blast by DJ LeMahieu. Lester is 3-1 with a 4.67 ERA in five starts against the Mets.
Wheeler has allowed more than two runs only once in his last seven starts, and that was a quality start at Pittsburgh in which he gave up three runs over six innings. The 27-year-old was excellent Wednesday at Texas, limiting the Rangers to one run and six hits over seven frames in a no-decision. Wheeler has been dominant in two starts against the Cubs, both in 2014, going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS:

1. Bruce is 15-for-39 with five homers during a nine-game hitting streak.
2. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo was 1-for-2 with two walks Monday and is 9-for-22 with a homer during a seven-game hitting streak.
3. Chicago RF Jason Heyward is 7-for-19 with two doubles and two home runs against Wheeler.

The KISS solo records have long been the subject of a heated taxonomic dispute. Released simultaneously, from KISS's label, with KISS's brand on the front cover (larger than the names of the solo band members who are the alleged artists!), with synergistic marketing promoting them all together, with the best tracks making it onto KISS setlists and onto a KISS compilation album, many argue that the solo records are KISS records, in a way that, say, Frehely's Comet records or Vinnie Vincent Invasion records are not.

Others ague, no huh-way, solo is solo.

I was in Cannon Beach, Oregon last week with mrs. sharpie, my daughter and her boyfriend. We went out to a breakfast joint and they had a signed Tommy Thayer picture hanging up. It occurred to me that anyone of roughly the right age and build (including my daughter's boyfriend) could go around signing KISS photographs and possibly getting a free breakfast in return.

The Kiss Army considers the 1978 solo albums to be of official Kiss canon, with Ace's effort generally considered to be the best, followed by Paul's, though there are certainly those who will argue passionately that the order is reversed. Gene's is a mess with some shining moments and Peter's made people question, legitimately, why he was the drummer in a hard rock band. (Though there are two really good songs on there.)

The band has incorporated songs from these into set lists, mostly "New York Groove."

Had they offered these as a double album with each band member getting a full side, they might have fared better. Had Casablanca Records shipped them gold instead of platinum, the label might still be in business.

That's so cool! He's from Oregon, and his father is a respected general. Kiss does a lot to support the military.

Lazy question (and not to prolong the hizacking of this thread) but did the other mem-
bers of KISS play on each album or did they put together their own guest musicians?

Re: IGT 6/13/17: CHC@NYM -- Zack In The New York Groove

They had non-KISS members joining the titular KISS members, but around this time, non-KiSS members were playing (uncredited) on the band's albums too.

That's a big part of the argument. But, hey, "Eleanor Rigby" is still a Beatles song. Circles within circles.

So the mad scientist Maddon puts a non-leadoff hitter hitting leadoff, a rookie with a week or so under his belt up 2nd, a guy with 5 HRs in the cleanup spot, two guys hitting around the Mendoza
line following him, then a pitcher who can't hit batting 8th ... and yet it somehow all works out for him.

It's all just going to make the comeback story tonight that much better.

Oh, and this game ain't takin' no 2:23 tonight.

Some pitchers may be more comfortable than others in a six man rotation. When he pitched when he was brought up, Wheeler was on his regular rotation rest. Or, he just had a stinker in him.
It'll be interesting to hear what he says in the post game interview.

Know what I like about the Cubs? The insignia on their helmet isn't just a paper decal. It's actually a sewn insignia adhered to the helmet.

Take that back. I love that about the Cubs.

Know what I hate? That two-run homer they just hit.

And now the Nats just went back in front on Ryan Zimmerman's 2nd HR of the day and his 18th & 19th of the season!
The last full season when he hit as many as 19 was 2013. He's also leading the league in BA - .365 before the night started.

Joe Ross started for the Nats but didn't last the 6th. He only has two losses and won't lose tonight either now that his team went back in front despite a ERA of over 6.00, mainly because the Nats
are averaging 12 Runs per game on the days he starts!

6-5 bottom 6. Dickey just pulled with two on and no outs so this could get uglier still before the inning in out.

Pelfrey sucked in the CitiField opener. The leadoff HR to Jody Gerut, and only went downhill from there.

That game was much better than last night.
