IGT 06/27/17 - The Long Dark Off-Day of the Soul

Chad Ochoseis
Jun 26 2017 07:03 PM

The Mets have the day off today while Terry figures out ways to bring all this winning to an end.

Don't let Robert Gsellman's mediocre 5-5 record fool you - he's been making sure to give up plenty of runs every outing, and I don't think he's lasted into the 7th all season. So he's been doing what he can to help the Mets lose, even if it doesn't always show up in the stats. He goes up against Dan Straily tomorrow night.

Back to the east coast - standard 7:10 start time, standard SNY broadcast.

The Mets won't face Hechavarria--he's going across the state to the Rays:
Rotoworld: "Rays acquired SS Adeiny Hechavarria from the Marlins for OF Braxton Lee and RHP Ethan Clark."

Wow, I guess that means they're believing in J.T. Riddle. I know the guy has had some prospect juice, but he hasn't shown much of anything batwise in the bigs. Or in the minors, frankly. That better be one magic glove he's wearing or he might improve the Mets chances to win.

Not that Hechy was much with the stick, but he seemed to do alright against the Mets.

Not at all, as it turns out. He's gone .218 / .263 / .286 // .549 in 237 plate appearances.

I suspect that the weightlifting thing makes sense, insofar as the stronger/faster/harder these guys perform motions that have always been unnatural, kinesiologically speaking, the likelier it is that they hurt themselves. But Ronnie does have the whiff of Old Man Yelling At the Moon there.

I think the trivia answers tonight are Stanton (doy), Harper, and Arenado. No Goldy, Gary.

For the moment Gsellman gets replaced by Wheeler who is expected to be off the DL in time for the weekend series v Philly
Beyond that it means that Montero's good recent start earns him at least a temporary promotion to the rotation with Pill in reserve and pray we don't need anyone beyond that.
Or, as Graham Parker might put it, we need temporary duty and hope to God that it doesn't rain.

I tend to think that the training staff and the weight training staff are separate entitles and that Barwis and Clarke don't answer directly to Ramirez and Chicklo (nor vice versa) as much as it might make sense if they did.

Re: IGT 06/27/17 - The Long Dark Off-Day of the Soul

In the end, Neil Ramirez can't go in there and walk guys. He made a mess for Blevins to clean up, regardless of whether the plays get made or not it's dangerous to play like that. Terry's options obviously suck but in the end looks like Go-Go Goedell is the better guy.

Also, Cespedes had a poor game. An ohfer with a few chances (and whiffing up 3-0) is one thing but he seemed especially slow all of a sudden just when I was hoping his leg issues were behind him.

I agree with the above this team doesn't have "it"
