We Need an American League Mistress

Looking for a team that's young, kinda hot. Something fun on the side. It's summer. We're young. And if God didn't want us to use these good looks, he wouldn't have given them to us. A few ground rules: 1. Has to be an AL Team. Obviously. And one that isn't going to play the Mets. Way too awkward dude. 2. This shit is short term. No commitments. Things may not be great at home right now but they should know we fully intend to work things out. 3. We keep this super quiet. Maybe restricted only to this board. We don't post pictures from their games, or update facebook with "CF, did you see the Cleveland score?" [u:123z5z06]No social media[/u:123z5z06]. I don't need this shit getting back to the Mets. My ennui of the Red Sox -- they've won enough, they're annoying -- as assuaged only by my Jim Rice fandom. (I had typed "hatred," but I don't really hate them, so I changed it.) Houston's too trendy. I do generally root for Cleveland and Minnesota to do well, and I'd like the Angels more if Nick Tropeano wasn't hurt. (I can like them next year.)

Oakland has been my AL team, going back to the days when they had the Big Three pitching staff. I haven't been following them closely lately, but I root for them when I think about it. I've been to a couple of games out there. The stadium is indeed a dump, but the fans are terrific. I love the guys in the outfield with the horns, drums, etc. - they are always entertaining.

The Indians are my AL mistress. Kinda MILF-y, can dress up perty when need be but not afraid to smack you on the ass and talk dirty when the time is right, which is fairly often for Clevelanders.

I would gladly take Milwaukee if they were still in the AL. As a kid, I used that as an excuse to root for them. Now, I keep an eye on the White Sox, but consider the DH cheating and, therefore, it's not real baseball.

It will be a good ten more years before I might start thinking of the Astros as an AL team. At 65 that will put me a good fifteen years from social security at the rate we seem destined.

I've given up on telling the people around me that Mets fans were there first and I just accept it now. - Their Terry is better than our Terry. Not great things about the Indians: The first baseman, Carlos Santana, wears #41. Every time I see a SANTANA 41 jersey, a few hundred brain cells explode from the cognitive dissonance. Fucking Chief Wahoo. He's an embarrassment to the club and to the city. I think he'll go away as soon as everyone stops telling the club to get rid of him. The Indians have been pushing the blocked C logo for the past five or ten years, but the fans are hanging on to the Chief, partially in defiance and partially in recognition that his days are numbered, and they want to snap up the Wahoo logo while they still can. Progressive Field - way too quiet.

Fgirl has an unabashed crush on the Orioles logo, to the point that I bought her, for her birthday next week, a garish pink baseball hat with his picture on it. She thinks he looks more like a duck and calls them "the Ducks." But, they do wear orange, and they play the MFYs, and I have been to their park a couple of times. So, there you go.

Sub-.500 in July and seemingly drifting out of it, they're now winners of seven straight and (most importantly) have made up 5 full games on the Yanx in the last week (from -7.5 to -2.5) including a game and a half chopped off just today (Wed) alone. Still don't trust their pitching, but they're hitting enough to make that not matter as often.
