I'll vote Nathan's.

I rarely eat hot dogs, but not because they aren't tasty!

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

Yay: Boars Head, Hebrew National, Nathans, Sabrett
Nay: Ball Park, Oscar Meyer, etc. Fake franks. Sad.

Really the best dogs we can get are here, but we only
get there 3-4 times a year.

Down here there's a terrific local place called Tower Dogs, with one brick and mortar shop in addition to a food truck. They make their own hot dogs, and they are fantastic!

Katz's Deli has really terrific hot dogs: with a snap that feels like an explosion. Nathan's at Coney Island is great but all other Nathan's are bad. Hebrew National for supermarket brands.

Nathan's on Coney Island is the best. The secret ingredient is that they still use the grease from 1916.

I'm partial to the ones from the local butcher personally.

if i'm at the supermarket, i'll probably go for the applegates. but if i have my druthers about me, i get 'em from one of a few of my local purveyors at the farmers market.

We have a local brand, Hoffmans', that are what we have here at the house. They sell skinless ones that seem a little less greasy as well as "coneys," which are pork/veal dogs and lighter color, and are my preferred choice.

At the ball park? I'll take a Nathan's, thanks.

Yes, and there is a certain something about their fries, too. Maybe its a different batch of that 1916 grease.

For local stuff in CT, this place was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Channel.

It started as a hot dog truck and is now brick and mortar. But the truck still can be rented for private parties.

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

Funny-- we were JUST talking about this at work the other day (hot dogs, not the article).

Always been a big Hebrew National and/or Boars Head guy; we do find ourselves going for the TJs dogs for convenience's sake, since we do so much of our basics/sundries shopping there, or at Aldi. (We go with the non-organic, because, well, "organic" in the US is more or less BS, and the organic does taste a little... off. We've had it at my in-laws, and the Times does have something here. #notfakenews)

Nathan's & Hebrew Nats.
Any other answer would result in my Coney citizenship being revoked.

Also-- with all due respect to FMan-- "Coneys" are bullspit, for trashy tastes, and anyone who likes them is an awful, trash person.

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

Remember, this taste test was only for grilled hot dogs.
There is nothing else in the world that tastes like those boiled-in-thirty-year-old-water hot dogs at the "Sabrett Towers" carts on NY street corners. And I'm not sure whether that's good or bad.

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

Hebrew Nats and Nathan's, with the edge to the Nats if I'm making 'em at home. I'm gonna try Chuck's Kayem Hot Dogs when I get the chance. They look enticing.

Two more things: One --I've been hearing that thing about the Coney Island Nathan's hot dogs tasting better than the one's at other locations for decades, and I'm skeptical. There might be a location here or there that's not up to the Coney Island originals but overall, like I said, I'm skeptical.

Two -- One of the worst hot dogs I ever had were the 1990's Shea Stadium dogs. They had the consistency of under-cooked boiled chicken on the outside and quavering jello on the inside. Gross.

Three -- This'll probably reflect more poorly on me then when I use that "C' word to describe that cunt Ivanka Trump but Burger King came out with hot dogs about half a year ago or so and I tried one. Just once.

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

This is a whole new debate, best stadium dogs. Are the bad ones you're thinking of Kahn's?

They currently are served at Great American Ballpark in Cincy. What brand of dogs in which parks?

Mets - Nathan's
Braves - ?? Their new park has a gourmet hot dog/sausage stand associated with celebrity TV chef Hugh Acheson
Nats - ??
Phillies - Hatfield
Marlins - ??

Cubs - Vienna Beef
Brewers -- Klements
Reds - Kahn's
Pirates - Sugardale
Cardinals - ??

Dodgers -- Farmer John Dodger Dogs
Giants -- ??
Dbags -- ??
Rockies -- ??
Padres -- ??

How are those Cub dogs? I'd generally trust Chicagoan institutions with my life, tubular-meat-wise.

Re: Hot Dogs. Which one's your favorite?

I don't know if it's enough to simply go by the brand name in determining which stadium has the best or worst dogs. A friend of mine in the food industry told me, years ago, that the dogs sold at stadiums aren't necessarily the same ones you can buy retail in a supermarket. Stadiums order dogs in such large quantities that the vendors offer them various different blends of their dogs -- ranging from better than to worse than the commercial versions available to the masses.

I lump Kahn's into my fake (and sad) dog of the nay variety. I haven't been
to Fenway in awhile but recall that I enjoyed Fenway Franks.

I think so. See my post above. Is there any doubt that Fred cheaped it up by ordering up an inferior brand of Kahn's? And then for a few years you had to put Dijonnaise on it if you wanted any mustard tasting taste. And believe me, if you didn't drown those Shea 90s dogs in condiments, you'd be retching pretty soon.

Does anyone else remember this? About 20 years ago, there was an exhibit (I guess that's what I'd call it -- "exhibit") in Manhattan of hot dogs from around the major leagues. I went and tried a few, including the famous Dodger Dog.

I remember the verbal sparring between MFY and Red Sox fans about supermarket hot dogs. They'd ask a Sox fan,"Do you know the difference between "Yankee Franks" and "Fenway Franks?" The answer was "They serve Yankee franks in October". Of course, that was during the MFY run and the Sox were still suffering the curse of the Bambino.

BYW, both brands are the same product, with different packaging for each market. I wouldn't buy either, but here in the same county in CT, some stores sell one, but not the other.

Evidently "Farmer John" makes Angel Dogs and the Oakland A's dogs too. I don't associate hot dogs with farms.

Even if they put Old Bay seasoning on it?
My ex-neighbor from Bal'mer told me he'd eat a bowling ball if it had Old Bay on it.
I had it, several times.
I wouldn't go that far, but pretty darn close.

i have no thoughts about the quality of Chicago dogs (i'm sure they are superior sausage makers), but the way they serve dogs, like a garden vomited on it, is criminal. like Capone-level criminal.

I'm a native-born New Yorker, and as such, I'm a YUGE food parochicalist. I don't generally touch Jersey bagels, or eat pastrami anywhere I've flown to, or go near deep dish unless I'm looking for casserole to feed the dogs.

But Lord, are you wrong. Sport peppers and a good pickle/giardineira thing, along with the celery salt-- O, THE CELERY SALT-- meld so delectably with the garlic, paprika and coriander in the dog spicing, and turn dogs from a treat into a real meal. I like a dog with kraut and good mustard. I LUST after a good Chicago dog.

Agreed. Frankly-- SSS alert-- our family's stadium Shackago Dog experiences have been more quality-consistent than our Shackburger ones.

That's like green bagels.

Green bread is a bad thing 364 days a year. I'm sorry, but I can't suspend that belief one day a year.
