The A's have one pitcher, in the person of Sean Manaea, on the mound. The Mets counter with Zack Wheeler and thousands upon thousands of Noah Syndergaard-as-Thor bobbleheads. Advantage! And it's advantage they had better exploit, because going to their pen after five today means it's all hands on deck tomorrow. If that means bobblehands, so be it.

AsCab is slated to become the 163rd third baseman in Mets history, the 34th since David Wright made his debut 13 years ago yesterday, the 84th since the count was immortalized in "79 Men on Third," the first to debut at the position for the franchise since T.J. Rivera last August 10.

Stepped away from the broadcast after the Bruce HR due to protracted, daddy-daughter-tension-fraught, pre-bedtime duties. After several minutes of anxiety-riddled toothbrushing, one or two fumbling apologetic hugs, and a couple of chapters of Thurber's The 13 Clocks later, I realized things had gotten more interesting in Queens. After consulting with my bedtime partner, I flipped on Howie and Josh at lights out, and we listened in the dark while lying side-by-side, holding hands in the dark, and squeezing during Duda and Wilmer. Wherever we go from here-- season- and parenting-wise-- it was a pretty good night, ending in a much nicer sort of daddy-daughter tension.
