... trying to kill our out of the pennant race blues

The final left coast trip of the year, so our games for the next week and a half have starting times of: 10:10, 10:10, 10:10, 9:10, 10:10, 4:10, 4:10, Off-Day, 8:40, 8:40, 3:10.
Enjoy!

This is of course also a trip that will straddle the trade deadline, one which we all expect is going to bring around at least some moves.
And just think about how conveniently close the replacements from Las Vegas will be!!

SD: 43 - 55. DFL in the NL in RS, 3rd worse (just ahead of us) at preventing runs but are in the midst of a winning July (10-8) and are coming off taking 3 of 4 from the Giants

We kick it off on Monday with deGrom vs Clayton Richard
Richard is 34 y/o ex-Cub, ex-ChiSox who is on his second go-around with the SD Fathers
TL/BL; 20 starts; 10-10; 5.35 ERA; 1.60 WHiP.
We did not face him at CitiField back in May. We lost 2 of 3 in that series.

Re: Workin' on our night moves -- IGT 7/24/17 @ SDP

NY Mets at San Diego
When: 10:10 PM ET, Monday, July 24, 2017
Where: Petco Park, San Diego, California
By Gracenote

The New York Mets will attempt to keep their focus on the field this week while ignoring the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, which could affect several of their key veterans. New York opens a 10-game road trip Monday against the rebuilding San Diego Padres, who took three of four from San Francisco over the weekend.

Players such as Jay Bruce, Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson and Addison Reed could be on the move from the Mets, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Oakland. New York has fallen 10 games back in the National League wild-card race but has a few untouchables - including Michael Conforto, who belted his 19th homer on Sunday. The Padres have several players on the trade block, including setup man Brad Hand, but Wil Myers isn’t expected to go anywhere soon. Myers has homered in three straight games and figures prominently in the long-term plans of the Padres, who won two of three against the Mets in May.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (11-3, 3.37 ERA) vs. Padres LH Clayton Richard (5-10, 5.35)

DeGrom has won a career-high seven consecutive starts, posting a 1.51 ERA and a 50-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio over that stretch. The 29-year-old Floridian settled in after a shaky first inning on Wednesday and held St. Louis to one run and seven hits while throwing 110 pitches over 6 2/3 frames. DeGrom is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA over 20 innings in three career starts against the Padres.

Richard is looking to bounce back after surrendering a career-high 11 runs - 10 earned - on 14 hits over 3 2/3 innings in an 18-4 loss at Colorado on Wednesday. “I have to take responsibility,” Richard told reporters. “Unfortunately, it just seemed like mishit balls found the right spots. It was a Coors Field day.” Jose Reyes is 3-for-14 against Richard, who is 2-3 with a 4.17 ERA in seven career starts versus the Mets.

WALK-OFFS:
1. San Diego 3B Cory Spangenberg is 13-for-32 during his eight-game hitting streak.
2. Reyes is one stolen base away from becoming the 39th player in major-league history to record 500 in his career.
3. The Padres activated Manuel Margot from paternity leave and optioned fellow OF Franchy Cordero to Triple-A El Paso.

Late night games hurt me. Luckily I will be on vacation the latter half of the week and, if I can pull down an XM signal over my phone while camping in the 'Dacks, able to catch a few innings here and there.

de Grom has an outside shot at 20 wins -- but a lot of things have to break right. Dealing Addison Reed would not help in his effort.

I kinda know Spangenberg and Renfroe, and guess I've heard of Margot and Coleman. Pirela rings a faint bell. Maybe?

Is Torrens that guy who went nuts in that Colorado hotel and chased his kid around with an axe?

Re: Workin' on our night moves -- IGT 7/24/17 @ SDP

And if you can't tell their hitters without a scorecard, knowing their pitchers just got more complicated as well as the Padres and Royals just swapped multiple hurlers:
Padres get: (currently DL'd RHR) Matt Strahm, (LHR) Travis Wood, and Minor League IF prospect Esteury Ruiz in exchange for [u:1jipfl9d]Ryan Buchter[/u:1jipfl9d], [u:1jipfl9d]Trevor Cahill[/u:1jipfl9d] and [u:1jipfl9d]Brandon Maurer[/u:1jipfl9d]

Cahill had been slated to start against us in Wednesday's game. Maurer had been their most recent closer, Buchter a lefty set-up man.

This is the awesomest possible phrase:
Flores, Cabrera, and Boo
Three fourths of the infield, the next coupla days
Flores, Cabrera, and Boo
Dudes that are more or less out of position
All in the care of a New York physician
Driving a Pads rally into remission
Flores, Cabrera, and Boo

This game seems like it should be more lopsided than just a 4-run lead for the Mets ... and now here it is down to a 3 run lead with [crossout:14troqmp]7[/crossout:14troqmp] 6 outs still to get.

The other upshot of this ragged inning is that it blew any chance of being a sub-2:30 game
Those are rare enough these days but are extra welcoming in west coast affairs.
