IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

Maybe the home field helps us.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

As mentioned during the game last night, Robert Gsellman replace Seth Lugo in the DL merry-go-round and will start in his place.
Gsellman was last seen limping off the field with a pulled hammy on June 27th.
Not quite clear what's up with Lugo but I think it's possible he's pitched his final game for the year.

For that other side will be recent pick-up Jamie Garcia.
This will be his 3rd start for the Yanx -- neither of the first two were very good -- although we've already faced him twice this season when he was with the Braves and seven times in his career
prior to that with the Cardinals
Mets won both 2017 games, hitting up Garcia for a total of 6 runs on 13 hits over 13 IP

And maybe 2018 as there are whispers of TJ surgery. Should have had it months ago.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

Would TJ Rivera be the first TJ to get TJ surgery since the original?

Anyhow, one thing that stinks is that the Yanks don't look like anything special. Their offense is full of boring hacker/whiffers, waiting for a mistake, and the pitching staff is full of slider/nibblers. They don't play smart and their defenders seem to be out of position. They're not aggressive, and when they are, they look stupid. They just seem like a more winning version of the Mets.

Yeah they are eminently beatable. We really need a reliable tablesetter type to hit 3rd everyday and reach base at 400, and we'd kill these guys.

I mean, we have a guy that can hit 3rd, get on base at 400. he's on the 60 day DL. Whatever happened to him? If he'd been a regular these past few I feel like he'd be a HoFer.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

We currently do have an uninjured soul who can hit 3rd and get on base at a .400 clip (.389 anyway).
What we could use is someone, or several someones, who can get on base at a decent clip in front of him (and Cespedes) then maybe our offense in this series wouldn't consist of just four swings, at
least two of which would probably have been outs in any other park.

Maybe Rosario turns into that guy, too soon to tell, and with Lagares being consistently unable to play in more than 12 consecutive games without breaking something we have no idea about him
either although his .299 career OBA five years into his career suggests not.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

Lagares, no. He can be a useful piece if he can keep his BB% up. it's dipped a little this year, though let's see where it ends. if he can get it to last year's level with the slight increase in power and the gold glove defense he's worth playing for the 15 games he's healthy.

unless you can find a real CFer with some OBP anyway.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

I'm telling you, Nimmo vs. the righties and Lagares vs. the lefties is the centerfield/leadoff elixir you're looking for. If the two of them can stay healthy, and the manager sets them loose to do what they can do, they will be a potent cocktail of baseball excitement. Lagares can also come on for defense on occassion, shifting Nimmo to a corner spot when appropriate.

Seeing recent alignments with Conforto in center and Nimmo on the corner made me want to holler. And that's when Nimmo was allowed into a lineup at all.

Let's play baseball, Terry!

My kid rounded the bases nicely on Sunday but then fell and skinned her knee pretty badly running behind the backstop, so probably no better than Lagares.

I'm not so sure it's been established that Nimmo is a better CF than Conforto.

Ceetar
Aug 16 2017 06:39 PM
Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

I felt like Nimmo's been up and down a lot, but I just looked and it's barely. I feel like we/them have given up on him as anything more than like, fodder, but he's gotten like no real exposure, hit well in the minors last year, though only average this year. But he walks. he walks well. Some comfort and confidence to drive the ball a little in an offensive juiced ball era seems worth giving him a longer look too. Can we please move Granderson? He doesn't have to be a gold glover, just solidly average with that BB% rate and he's the perfect leadoff guy.

And, yes, Gary, d'Arnaud has been hidden defensively.
The problem is that he's also been hidden offensively!

so now, even when our HRs are preceded by a walk and a hard smash they still wind up as solos.
And isn't it amazing how often, even when they do hit against the shift, they manage to find the one fielder on the off side?

And now walk-walk-double doesn't score a run!!
It's like they're inventing ways not to score.

Re: IGT August 16 Shitdicks @ Mets

That was definitely an interference (obstruction, actually) indication but no way was Cespedes going to score without it so he wasn't going to be awarded home.
What I was worried about is that he was going to pull the idiot move of assuming he was going to be awarded the base and get tagged out as he loafed between 3rd & home.
That came up in a (non-NYM) post-season game a few years back but I forget the specific actors.

That's also at least the second time this season that G, K, & R seem confused as to how that rule works.

How come you never see a team, when the infield fly rule is called, intentionally drop it to see if any of the runners panic and try to advance?

It's probably been tried, but I haven't seen it in a while. Does one's manhood compel one to prove he can catch the ball?
