Last Chance IGT - 8/17/17 Yanx @ Mets

Well seeing as how NYM bats scored a whopping total of 7 runs combined off that other team's three worst starters, all they did was put themselves in a situation where they have to salvage the series, hell, the the season, against their best starter. Matz vs Luis Severino Severino [9 -5; 3.32; 1.11 in 23 starts] had given up one run or less five straight starts [3 runs total on 21 hits over 32.2 IP] before getting blitzed by the BoSox in his last one. Mainly he got wild in one inning then served up a 3R HR to Andrew Benintendi. Then, a couple innings later, he gave up a few hits and served up a 3R HR to Andrew Benintendi Problem is, we don't have Andrew Benintendi on our team. We also don't do 3R HRs. Plus we don't really like hitting in general and we're not too keen on walks lately either. But, hey, we got Matz going backed up by a stellar bullpen so no problems (ugh) Ahh no worries. All that's riding on this game is the series, the season, our dignity, our self-worth as fans, plus any reason for even getting out of bed come Friday morning.

Fuck these Mets. I'll be glad when this season is over. I can't remember being so disappointed in a Mets team. I know there were injuries and shit but this team looks so dickless and weak.

Meh®, I can't muster up any anger towards a baseball team this year with all the other horse shit going on in the world. I gave up early this year, so maybe I'm just more emotionally disconnected than in years past.

Sure. I gave up on the season a while ago. But coming into this series, I thought maybe if they beat the MFYs and put their division hopes to bed, maybe we can get some small sense of joy from this season. Lackluster play. Shitty hitting. Really. Just fuck these guys.

I'm watching but don't feel much. When I can't watch I have Mets Fast Forward recorded automatically if I want. My level of true interest and passion for the Mets is at an all time low. For me to be in 'fuck 'em' mode I'd have to care first and really I don't care this year.

Yeah same. They haven't played well enough or exciting enough to earn much admiration. I think that's what the club is missing: some excitement. There's hardly anyone beyond deGrom who makes you say "he's fun to watch." We need Shinjo or something. I'm blaming it all on Cabrera today since he's still here but was the first one who asked out.

I think we're also aware of how absorbed we were in the Mets last year and the year before at this point in the season. I very much hope that the Mets do something over the winter that gives us renewed hope for the 2018 season. Maybe they can sign Vince Coleman and Bobby Bonilla?

I'm also hoping for a quick bounceback year. The fact is, the Mets have never really had one of those, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

I've BEEN trying to do the joy-in-the-little-things thing-- enjoy the rookies, read way too much into hairstyle changes, spoil the teams we like least, etc.-- since midway into June or so, but this team mostly refuses to cooperate. Even guys like Smith and Rosario haven't yet proven to be the fun-to-watch kind of young'in. Outside of Conforto and deGrom, it's been way too real, in a year where we REALLY could have used a mental amusement-park ride for a few hours a night.

I'm with you on 2009 being worse -- way worse -- but just so uninspired by this group. JUst about everyone given a chance to shine didn't run with it, and the lineup probably had too many Veterans Who Know How To Play This Game to make it any fun. Gimme an Angel Pagan. Give me an undersized Red Ass who starts fights. Enough with Neil Walker and his sensible second-generation baseball reliability.

We have a terrible knuckler. Mickey F. Jannis. He's been in AA and can't seem to buy a promotion after three seasons up there, even though he's been kinda good this season and the Vegas rotation has been dramatically awful. He wears a single-digit number too, just the kind of weirdo who can make for some good copy down the boring, boring stretch. Plus he looks like a guy born New Yorker/neighborhood guy. Delivers canned goods to your uncle's deli, works a little construction, talks a little too loud, and maybe knows something about where you can get some action but you didn't hear it from him. You know when he's bullshitting, which is almost always, because his hands always go to his face.

Yeah well you figure that the only player, beside deGrom and mostly Conforto, to give us a season as good or better than we had a right to expect was probably Bruce, and even he was a guy who fans were expecting, if not flat-out anticipating, would be gone practically from the moment he got here, so it was kind of tough to get too invested. Almost everyone else either missed large chunks on the DL, or they underperformed, or had one foot out the door, and sometimes several of the above. And then of course the exciting part of this team was supposed to be the starting pitching where, as I tallied last week, only deGrom among the seven top starters has appeared in more games than 'Other'. It all adds up to not being a real warm and fuzzy bunch.

This team takes me back to the days when I would tune in to watch Kingman or Foster at bats, then as soon as they were over I would tune out because nobody else in the lineup was capable of doing anything to excite me. I feel that way now about Rosario and Conforto and maybe Smith will soon find his way to that list. But, Dammit, Terry, bat Rosario second or third and Conforto right after him, so I don't have to suffer dynamic ennui during the at bats between them. In the meantime, I'll root. Hard. But its a struggle. Later

This game makes it now 104 runs allowed in 119 1st innings for the Mets. That's an ERA of nearly 8.00 and a slash line (before today) of .305/.367/.517 w/26 HRs No other inning has more than 80 RA I'm not going to look up every other team to find out if that's the worst in all of baseball but I can't imagine that it's not.

Once again a NYM bat manages to hit the ball directly at the lone glove on the opposite side of the infield. It takes some sort of talent to do that so consistently and not cause the infielder to even have to move. And then their 112 pound midget hits a seven hopper that never comes near any of the infielders. ... and game over!

I don't think I've ever bailed on a Met/Yanx game before, but I did tonight. Oh I checked back here and there, but I just couldn't hang with it for any length of time. And for a series decided by 2, 1, 2, and 2 runs, none of the games seemed even slightly close.
